I currently have a feeling of both relief and frustration.
Last night, I changed my pump site and reservoir before bed, earlier I had also changed my CGM sensor. Overnight, my blood sugar started to rise. By the time I got up this morning it was 200. Not normal at all. I didn’t go exercise this morning because the weather was nasty (I was actually hoping they would close the university campus–where I work–for ice, but they didn’t).
I did a correction bolus, skipped breakfast, and went to work. Two hours later, didn’t come down. Didn’t really go up much either though. My stomach was growling, and I felt I would go nuts if I didn’t eat, so I had my 16g carb shake, bolusing for it and another correction, plus an additional two units because I figured something must be up!
My first thoughts were:
- Bad site? My site insertion didn’t go as smooth as normal, and I actually had to push the needle in all the way. I wasn’t getting no delivery errors, but I thought maybe I hit scar tissue or was getting poor absorption for some reason or another.
- My period, which I like to blame for everything. I usually don’t have as bad of BS problems during (mostly before), but it wouldn’t be too unusual to attribute my abnormal numbers to that.
Well, I decided I’d just change my entire site and reservoir during my lunch break. Took the old reservoir out of my pump and what do you know? A big puddle of insulin in the underside of the reservoir! (There’s extra room there because I don’t fill it up all the way; I have a Minimed Paradigm 722.)
I didn’t even smell it until I took the reservoir out of the pump. Ugh. So ridiculous!
So I wonder how much insulin I actually got since last night? I had to have some since I’ve not skyrocketed. So that’s good at least.
I survived my first leaky reservoir. Hope it doesn’t ever happen again. >__>
