Levemir

Is Eli discontinuing Levemir? Why? Does anybody use it?

I used it before it got discontinued.

I liked it very much. You could do a lot of things with it.

It was made by Novo Nordisk, not Lilly.

I will give you one gue$$.

It’$ the $ame rea$on a$ anything el$e.

If you think really hard about it, I am $ure you will figure out the real rea$on they di$continued it, de$pite what Novo Nordi$k $aid in their pre$$ announcement.

I used Levemir (Novo Nordisk) in the past when I was on MDI and yes it is either already discontinued or about to. It was nothing compared to newer generation long acting insulin types. I had to take levemir twice a day and even then results were not fine. I had much better results with Toujeo. Now as a backup I have TRESIBA (novo nordisk), but never used it, since I am on a pump with Fiasp (ultra fast acting insulin)(Novo nordisk) only. I heard good things about TRESIBA, therefore I have it just in case my pump malfunctions or such.
Both Toujeo and Tresiba or even Lantus are all long acting once a day basal insulin types.

@Sin_Ay Check out Tresiba injection timing question where we had a good discussion regarding the timing of Tresiba. Even though Tresiba is taken once a day it is very different from 21-24 hour insulins like Lantus.

I’m gonna need to have some basal around for the inevitable pump failure that will occur.

I must have mentioned it earlier, I have Tresiba as backup long acting insulin, but never used it so far. I have been actively using FIASP on my tandem mobi as a single type of insulin. If one day, I need to switch back to MDI (in case of pump failure or swimming activities etc) then I guess I would have the opportunity to test Tresiba myself. I remember reading it is effective beyond 24 hrs, however most of the people mentioned that they are using it every 24hrs.
