I know I saw a post a while back about where to buy Dreamsfield Pasta and other low carb products online but I can’t find the post. Does anyone have a good web site where these items can be purchased?
I buy products from netrition.com. I have had good experience with them. Here is a link to their page with Dreamfields.
Ooh, thanks, Kristin! My local grocery store sells only two Dreamfields pasta shell types - I think it’s the linguine and the penne rigate, neither of which I cook with often. I can always find those two on the bottom shelf of the pasta aisle though.
Thanks for the link. Going to try them out.
No problem!
I also order DaVinci syrups and liquid sucralose (splenda) with fiber (one bottle of this last a long time and I like the flavor better than other sweetners).
I couldn’t believe all the flavors of DaVinci syrups. I felt like a kid in a candy store. Now I just have to decide which ones to try first.
I LOVE the caramel!!! (but I love caramel anyway). It tastes just like the real thing and I put it in my coffee.
In my opinion, Irish cream was just OK (I was expecting it to taste like Baileys and it only kind of did. It’s good in coffee too).
I use French Vanilla instead of vanilla extract (which has carbs in it) in pudding or things that I bake.
Those are the three that I have tried so far. One bottle lasts a LONG time in my experience. Let me know how you like them!
Dreamfield’s Pasta can be bought at a lot of the upper scale grocery stores. Ingles grocery store for instance in this area is huge and upper scale and sells all kinds of dreamfields and low carb stuff.
ARGH!!! Unfortunately, I was buying my Dreamfield’s Pasta at Jewel Food Stores in Chicago… well, I went to get some yesterday and there was no sign of it ever having been there. I checked with the stock manager and he said they discontinued carrying it to make shelf space for Ronzoni Smart Taste. I explained the difference between Dreamfields and any other pasta and asked couldn’t they stock it in the diabetic food section along with the Glucerna cereal, snack bars, drinks, etc. he said he would send a notice to the Jewel buyers.
If you live in an area where Jewel food stores are… ASK them for it. The more people who ask for it, they might reinstate purchasing it and stock the shelves again!
GREAT NEWS! Dreamfields Pasta is BACK at JEWEL stores! Remember… don’t over cook it! The more you cook pasta the higher the glycemic index it gets. Al Dente is perfect!
If you cool pasta in the fridge, overnight for about 12 hours, it also develops resistant starch (which the body cannot digest, or convert to glucose) and then it has even less of a glycemic load (which is more accurate of a measurement than glycemic index is). The same can be done with potatoes, particularly those little red ones… they do pretty good this way, and reheating does not raise it again.
Just a word of warning about Dreamfields. The “protected” carbs are not actually protected, but rather delayed for about 6 hours (for me). I am a type 1 diabetic and I had to stop eating Dreamfields because I could not predict exactly when it would raise my blood sugar.
Perhaps for type 2 diabetics, it is good, but I just advise you to check your blood sugar about 6 hours after eating it to make sure that you are not seeing this delayed spike that I see.
It may not be a problem for you, but it is worth checking. It really didn’t raise my blood sugar right away, but it did raise it!
Yeah, that has happened to me with other high fiber products, if they contain a lot of fat… low carb pizza using a high fiber (net carbs 6 grams) crust.
I did not know this. I will test similarly the next time I eat it. I seem to like the flavor of Dreamfields better than ANY of the whole wheat options out there. I’ll post how it goes for me at 2 - 4 - 6 hours. I’m a type 2 under good control.
Unfortunately I will put my .02cents in about Dreamfields… Theres nothing Dreamy about the Fields… For me it did not agree with my GI system similar to the effect of eating a few too many sugar free candies… And the delayed spike … Least for me I found the delayed spike was lower than regular pasta but not worth the discomfort of eating it.
I will put mine in too-as a warning to others–I used it to make homemade macaroni & cheese-something I have been dying to eat! (dont like whole wheat pastas and cant eat white pasta-spikes me too high) Well, I could not go to the bathroom for a week! Had to stay home from work! Never eating that again!
My mom bought Dreamfield pasta from Netrition, but since I’m an Amazon Prime member, I bought a whole pack on Amazon. I immediately made a meal but was disappointed to see my blood sugar high that night. Good to know that it has a delayed spike, I wasn’t aware of that before. I do love the taste of it though!
Then I went raw and now I have over $50 of pasta I am going to try not to use, ugh. My alternative is zucchini noodles with tasty sauce.
Before you go and throw out the Dreamfields, do check that it was prepared properly. The Dreamfields pasta should be cooked al dente (until just barely done, in fact not completely done). If you overcook it, it deactives the protection on the pasta. Serve the pasta immediately, don’t let it sit around staying hot. And never reheat the pasta. You just might want to give it a try. At least a measured try.
