So, I am new to all this. I joined this group with hopes of meeting some runners. I was training for a marathon, but just found out I have a fracture. I am off for a few weeks, and will continue training. I was told by the Dr. not to run a full, so I am doing a half now. Anyways, would love to do a full this Summer or Fall. Any advice?
There's a great group here: http://www.tudiabetes.org/group/diabeticswhorunmarathons that people just pretty much report what they're up to, or some of it. There's (at least...) one guy who's run 50 marathons, people running 1/2s, ultras, etc. I have just run my first and wrote posts after a lot of the long runs and on and off all summer. There's a good group and they are very supportive. You can also ask questions and will get pretty good answers! I hope your foot cooperates!!
I'm not a runner, but I have to ask you. When your doctor told you not to run a marathon, did he tell you it was ok to run a half or did he tell you to not do any endurance running. A fracture seems like a pretty serious injury, if you really mess up your leg or something it may not be a couple weeks off, but a long protracted recovery (if at all).
It sort of depends on the bone? One of the people from the group I ran with had a stress fx in her foot that she got about 1/2 way through the Chicago Marathon. "I felt something but I was still going pretty good, 3:47, I was pissed I just missed Boston!" and had a cast for a while. A lot of it depends on which bone and how the break is and stuff too.
Thanks everyone. I fractured my left pubic bone, and it's only a grade 1 fracture. My doc does marathons too, and said I could do the half marathon. It actually feels better since I made the appt. 3 weeks ago. I was shocked I had a fracture, but I'll stay off it for a few weeks. I think I am going to try pool running!!
that sounds odd to me. why would running 13 miles on a fracture be ok?
