Medical I.D's

My son was diagnosed with diabetes at age 4 and he's now 8. He's always just went to school and came home and I always went with him to all his sports practices and activities so I didn't really see the need for a Medical I.D. Now that he's older and in many sports and activities and his siblings are in sports and activities I can't always be with him. So I was thinking it's a good idea to get him a Medical I.D so that way everyone he's around knows he's diabetic since I can't always be by him to remind people. I was wondering what brands of Medical I.D's do your children use? Do your kids wear necklaces or bracelets?

We tried many things for our son, who was also diagnosed at 4 and is now 8. We've pretty much decided RoadIDs bracelets work best for us. (roadid.com) They're durable and the customer service is good. When he outgrows one bracelet, you can buy another inexpensively and use the same hardware. They now also sell a caduceus slide-on that helps it stick out as a medical ID. There are so many choices out there. Good luck finding the right thing for your kiddo.

Hi there. My son is 12 and very active. We have tried a couple it really depends on how much you want to spend. Also how reliable he is not to lose his. We just use the rubber bracelets. I put his name and my number on the inside. Those rubber band bracelets are cheap and the kids wear them with all kinds of saying so his doesn't look out of style. Lol. They come in many different colors. And they can wear in shower, bath, pool. Just one option for ya. Thats what works best with us. We had the more expensive one and the clip that fastened it was plastic and broke wasnt worth the money for us.

My daughter has a lot of medical id brackets and I feel it is very important to wear one. The site I use isLauren's hope. They have different kinds of bracelets for girls and boys. I always wait for the sales, yes they can become expensive.

We use Road ID as well…it is good because it is rubber…a lot of refs in soccer will not allow the chain/bracelet kinds to be worn in a game…with the rubber one, the most we have had to do is cover the small metal information part with tape…be aware that soccer refs in AYSO and CY can make you take off ‘jewelry’ so the more you can make it easy for them to accept it the better…therefore, rubber, covered with a sweatband or tape…things like that…

My 15 yr old son wears the para cord bracelets. They come in crazy colors! We got them from Paige"s Hope website. Also I think it’s important for the kids to wear them even if they are with you. If you were in an accident, God forbid, you wouldn’t be able to tell anyone he is a t1d.

My 4 year old wears a necklace with a dump truck pendant. He used to wear a standard stainless bracelet but took it off once he got old enough and didn't want it on. He doesn't mind the necklace and we never take it off. There's some pretty neat stuff out there. Leather cuff-like bracelents, rubber bracelets, necklaces of every material. Being 8 I'd print him off a couple choices or something. I bought a bracelet and a necklace and said to my little guy he had to wear one but could choose which. He's never out of my site either but I'm paranoid about car crashes or something like that where I couldn't say anything.

Thank you so much. That helps alot. I'll check out the website.:)

Thanks so much Julie. I'll keep that in mind. He already has several of those bracelets that have sayings on them so this might be the right choice.

Thanks so much. I'll check them out :)

Thanks for the information. He plays soccer so we will have to be aware of that :)

Thank's so much. I'll check that out. Yes it is very important I realized the other day that he should be wearing one :)

Thanks for your input. I'm definitely going to print out a few choices and let him choose since I got a lot of suggestions :)

Just received my daughter's RoadID tag and slim bands. She's loving them! (I got her every color; the metal ID and badge are interchangeable and additional bands are super inexpensive.)

Thanks for the info. I ordered him a Road ID yesterday. I can’t wait for it to come in the mail.
