MiniMed 722

I would like to hear what you all have to say about your MiniMed 722 because I’m getting my first pump in a few weeks and would like to know what you think about the pump. What all comes with the pump and how do you feel about Medtronics customer service. Please feel free to leave me messages because this will be my first pump and as far as I’ve heard a lot of people like the MiniMed 722.

Thank you all for any comments you leave!

Hi Dooie, my son is on the 722 for a year now. We are very happy. He is extremely happy because it gives hime much more freedom and control. We bought one years consumables together with the pump. It’s difficult to say what the customer service would be like - it was’nt neccesary up to now to deal with them directly. Our service in SA will be different from yours. You can use the cgms with this pump which is a very good thing to have later on.

HI Doodie - I have been using the 722 for a bit over 2 years now. During this time I have fallen in a lake, fell on it several times (once hard enough to leave a rectangular bruise on my butt), and hit it so hard last month the belt clip shattered. I have taken it to 4 countries and have been on an airplane (security, x-rays, inspections) with it about 6 times. I have had no problems with the pump =)

I have had to call customer service about a magnetic field warning I got in the mail, I also called them when I ran out of supplies and they sent me “samples”. They have always helped me and I have had no problems with customer service.
Good luck. and Cheers!

I have been using the 722 for 4 months and have had no problems with it…This is my second pump through Medtronics and so far I haven’t had any problems…Just sometimes it takes a little while to get through as with most customer service centers…I am also using a CGM (continous glucose monitor) and have had more issue with that then the pump…When I got my pump it came with about 3 month supply of infusion sets and resevors…I had to purchase seperate the IV preps…they help the tape on the infusion set stay down at times…If you have any questions feel free to send me a message and I will try to help you as best as possible

Good luck

I have had mine for almost two years now. It is a great piece of technology, extremely durable as others have pointed out, and easy to use. I had a 507C before and the 722 is light years ahead in almost every way. My only gripe is how quickly it chews batteries up when you are using the CGMS.

Hello! I have had the 722 for about 6 months. I just recently upgraded to it because it has the cbgm. I had the 715 for 4 - 5 years, and it is exactly the same, it just doesn’t have the technology to use the cbgm. I love the pump, although there are lots of things about it that are frustrating, overall it is great! I don’t like having something attached to me, I never know where to put it, I go through jean rear pockets like crazy (because I usually keep it in my back pocket), the tubing sometimes gets caught on door knobs…etc, but the benefit it has it worth it all!
Here are a couple links to give you an idea of how the whole process works. www.livingwithtype1diabetes.wordpress.com/2008/11/04/changing-infusion-sets/

Thank you for your insight and thats a good thing that your pump went through all of that and is still ticking.

thanks again, Dooie

I’ve been using the 722 since June and was using the 715 before that since 2005. The 715 & 722 are basically the same pump, but the 722 is able to work as the receiver for the CGMS sensors. I’ve been very happy with the pumps so far. Most of my experiences with Minimed’s customer service have been good. Early on I called about problems with infusion sets and had a bad customer service rep, but I called back the following day and spoke with someone else who was very helpful. One bad experience with one customer service person isn’t enough to say that the company is no good, so if you do have a bad experience when you call just ask to speak to someone else or call back later.

If you find that the infusion sets they send you (they usually send Quick-Sets) aren’t working, call them up and ask for samples of another set. Different people like different sets and what they send you might not be the best fit.

Oh, and believe them when they say to only use Energizer alkaline batteries. Don’t think you’ll be able to save money by using a different brand. They won’t work!

i’ve had that pump for a while now and i haven’t had trouble with is at all. i had some problems with my old minimed pump at one point and they do have good customer service. i would definitely recommend it. it’s nice that if figures up how mych insulin u need for u
