MIO infusion sets

Thank you for the info… Punk, I don’t think you need to buy the solution to take off the Skin Tac… I did and never used it. Good luck with the skin tac. I use the individual packets. Hope they work for you. I have also used tegaderm over the site if he were going to be at a waterpark all day, and just cut a window out for the connection. I think I may look into the animas insets and see what I can come up with that doesn’t cost a fortune. Thanks so much

Aren’t the Mio’s and the Insets the same product except for the adapter for the reservoir? Same manufacturer and same product I thought?

OMG thanks so much for the info on skin tac wipes they are great!! Just what I was looking for. Dane has had no problems since we got hold of them. I had to buy them from a breast prothesis site here in OZ. I will be telling anyone I know with pump problems about them. Thanks again Nancy.

I just can’t get the Mio to work for me. It is too complicated to get it set right and then inserted properly. The only type I do not have problems with is the Sof Set. Will try alternating it with the silhouette on next order.

My son (age 3 1/2) has been using the MIOs for almost a year. Our endo just advised us to switch to a different infusion set because Ian kept spilling ketones on a pretty frequent basis, and we would have to switch out his MIO much earlier than it was due. We’re now going to the Sure-T, which is what we’ve been using for my daughter for the past 3 years. Has anyone else had problems with occlusions with the MIO? MM claims there aren’t any issues with them.

Also as an FYI to an earlier post, our DNE told us we didn’t need to use the caps when disconnecting to bathe because they infusion sets won’t let water in. She did advise us to use the caps if the kids are disconnected and playing in the sand or something where grit could get into the set.

My son uses the MIO and we can’t make up our minds about it - we are new to the pump, since May and I’m not sure what we’re going to do. Our educator wanted us to use something different but I’m not sure about manually inserting the set - do you do that? We have definitely had some unexplainable problems with occlusions and ended up in ER. I kinda thought maybe it was my inexperience.

My son is 12 and very active and the site has come off before as well - after I write all this, I think we should switch. Ha!

With the Sure-T, I manually insert it. It’s become very easy for me, but I’ve had lots of practice! I hold it above the insertion point and tap it in quickly with my fingertip. My son just doesn’t have enough fat on his butt yet to wear it comfortably. It keeps poking his muscle. My daughter is very comfortable with it though. It is, by far, the most reliable infusion set we’ve tried so far. She rarely has problems with it.

I tried the Quick Set, but it is pretty much the same thing as the MIO, and we ended up with the same issues.

I’ve just finished trying the Silhouette on my son and inserting it with the Silserter. I thought it was awkward to insert. My DNE is pushing for me to use this one because it is more reliable than the MIO — less likely to kink, etc. I guess I’ll get used to it in time.

I apply an IV-3000 over the infusion set to help hold it in place. It’s like a sticky plastic that adheres to the skin. You can also buy products to make the adhesives hold to the skin better, but so far, I haven’t found the need to use them.

I hope your son is okay now. We’ve been fortunate to never have needed to go to the ER (my daughter is 4 yrs out from dx and my son is 1 1/2 yrs out), knock on wood!

I’ve just started using my first insulin pump (Medtronic 630g) and I use the Mio infusion set. I had a lot of trouble yesterday with the cannulas comming out and getting bent/kinked. I went through 3 sets yesterday (my first day), then had to start using my insulin-pens again. I think the cannula is comming out after I move around for a few minutes. I’ve tried different sites but didn’t have much luck on my first day. Any advice? Or suggestions for different infusion sets to use with Medronic pumps?

I’ve never had trouble with the Mio set. Actually, I had the problems you described when I was using the Quick Set and the Mio solved those problems. If you decide to try a different infusion set, I would not recommend the Quick Set. I haven’t tried any other set, so I’m not able to recommend another set.
