The warranty on my 722 expires tomorrow, according to Medicare. I've been looking over the Revel brochure and wonder if it's worth the cost. (minus the insurance payment) to get a new Revel. I have the CareLink, CGM & OneTouch meter already. Any suggestions?
Well, Im on the 722, so cant say much, but…
It seems its just a software upgrade. With that said, the second gen software is always going to be better than gen 1. Well not always but 99% of the time.
If you are worried about the warranty expiring and having a breakdown on the pump and having an avenue to replace it, it may be worth it - you would have another 4 years of waranty. If you are wanting an integrated system, and only having to carry around one device, then yes. With that being said - I don’t know if the 722 is integrated, so if it is, disregard the last statement.
Its the tweaks to the 723 that make it a choice.
The 723 (Revel) has
Predictive Alerts <- This is the BIGGEST plus in my mind.
More refined unit adjustments
I think there was 1 or 2 more differences.
Take a look over at the MM Group

I was on a 722 for years and just last week upgraded to the Revel. Mine was out of warranty and I did it as an attempt to get CGM coverage. That has since been denied. Now saying that, I see no reason to go to the Revel. They made a few changes…smaller bolus increments, you can see new things such as active insulin by hitting the esc button rather than having to go through a pretend bolus wizard. Other than that, there is virtually no reason to upgrade unless like Jennifer said you are concerned about the lack of warranty. They actually made a few things more of a pain. Changing out a set and filling the reservoir now requires you to answer more question. “Are you disconnected?” “Do you see a drop at the end of the site?” Seems trivial but when you are doing this as you are inevitably trying to get out the door…
Also, I use the one touch ultra link that sends readings to the pump. I used to run the daily average to see my BG levels for up 31 days. Can’t do that anymore unless I just can’t find it yet. You can see average carbs, insulin, percentage of correction boluses, that sort but not actual BG average.
Another seemingly minor thing, the battery cap now locks down. I guess they received complaints about it working loose. I used to be able to loosen it with my thumbnail and replace the battery. Now, if you tighten it to where you are suppose to, you need a coin. Small detail, but can be annoying to some.
Bottom line, if you are using CGM or certain to be with the Revel, perfect. Otherwise, I would wait it out a little longer.
To see your daiily average -
Utilities menu - - - daily totals - - - - daily average - - - and change the amount of days you want to see
The predictive alerts are the only major difference. Id say if they will pay, then go for it.
Yeah when I do that I don’t have a BG average. I get all the other info, just no glucose. Could it be because I don’t have a CGM?
yep, exactly.
Just hit ACT 2 more times (if you also use a sensor - that’s how many times I have to hit it - maybe you only need to hit it once more if you don’t have a sensor?). Each screen has different numbers.
Score! That’s it, thanks Jennifer. So without a sensor, once you get back the daily average stats, hit Act, it asked for number of days, hit ACT again and there are the BG meter averages. Great. Maybe I will sign up for the training.
Am anxious to see replies to ur discussion post… this is not an answer to ur ?, but an opinion: Why didn’t Mmed make the alarm louder???
Thats a good question…I hear mine, but sometimes not at night.
Thanks to everyone!! As a result of your wise counsel, I have completed and faxed the forms to Medtronic for the Revel. I do appreciate your quick responses.
If you wear it next to you, try using vibrate mode. It gets going.
I surely will.
I typed that, and this morning at 3am I got woken up with a 74. I tested and I was 73. I ate a Cadbury egg and went back to bed. That got me up to 103…So ~30g of carb raised me 30 points…Hmmmmm, that was less than I thought it would raise me. Oh well it stopped the beeping and I could rest!!!
JohnG, could you please give the source to these tables? I cannot read them in your posting. I suspect the tables are not from the MM site. Thank you!
Doesn’t the Cadbury egg have some fat in it as well? Maybe this explains the lack of response? I would think the cream part has fat in it. Could be wrong.
A number of posters have noted that the Revel has a predictive alert. Is this only if you have a cgm? Or does it work if your meter communicates your readings to the pump but don’t have a cgm? I don’t see myself getting a cgm so this would be a nice feature. It seems as if, however, most of the Revel “advances” are only for those who wear the MM cgm.
Did they fix the automatic CGM calibration issue with the ultra-link meter? That is to say, when you have the ultralink enabled, does it still automatically calibrate the CGM or did they fix that?
Not that I like that huge OT meter, but it was pretty convenient for home and work when I’m too busy or too lazy to enter it manually.
