Must Buy New Phone as DexG6 No Longer Supported

Wow! And the Dexcom tech person specially told me, more than once, not to get an IOS above 15 as there have been problems with the new Dexcom app on IOS above 15 and they are working on it. Which I have also heard from others here, or I’m thinking that’s the problem they are running into on their iPhone 13 and 13Pro, because they are running above IOS 15.

Interesting! Well you are indeed the lucky duck!

One thing going for the pixels is very little bloatware. I read that apple has hardly any which is good. Some are a pain with adding facebook and such.

For now, I don’t know what I will do when this phone will be replaced. I do not want a mini- tablet (huge size) of most phones available regardless of operating systems.

What do you mean by “bloatware?”

Yes. I hear you! Seems no matter which brand I look at these newer phones are much bigger than my current i6 which is barely manageable for me hand size wise, and already quite weighty carrying it on my person either in pocket or special bag just for phone when I am pocketless, which is often.

Basically a lot of apps that are difficult to remove and want to be used. Google phones have almost zero

Bloatware is a type of software that comes preinstalled on a computer, smartphone, or tablet. It takes up space, reduces battery life, and cripples performance. Annoying at best, harmful at worst, bloatware is rarely useful and serves primarily as a revenue stream for manufacturers and distributors.

You know what’s crazy? BG meters in the 80’s were actually smaller than they are now.

And I am not talking about the first generation ones that came out for home use in the 80’s. Those were huge. I am talking about the next gen ones they had.

I had this one, which was the size of a pen.

Now meters are so much bigger and the phones are worse. With advancements in technology, why aren’t things getting smaller?

iPhone 12 Pro running OS 15.6.1
Zero problems.
I like the size and I love the camera.
But the MAX versions are way too big, I agree.

Wowzer that’s a cool BG meter! I never knew they were small like that. I just said to hubby earlier today the exact same thing, “With the advances in technology I thought things were supposed to get smaller. What happened?”

So good to hear from another not having problems. Yay! :raised_hands:
No problems with Follow or Clarity either? Because that was where Dexcom said there was incompatibility issue.

Measurements and weight for the 12 pro are still bigger than I have now, but almost everything is. Thanks for the feedback. It helps.

Just so you know the iphone 8 came in two sizes. I think the smaller one was the same size as the iphone 6? Not sure though. My older iphone is a 8 plus and has the ios 13.5.1, but the older Dexcom 1.9.0. It works just like it’s supposed to. I won’t update it lol!

I have the iphone 13 pro max now…I like bigger! Easier to read, easier to type for me. It is mostly carried in a small wallet type purse, but when I put it in my pocket it is heavy and I could see where that would be annoying.

My Dexcom says it is 1.8.1 Everyone else keeps mentioning their “older version of 1.9.1.”
I don’t know why my version is even older! :flushed: This is the first time I ever recollect getting a notification from Dexcom that I need to update my app.

Husband has the i13 Pro. I first thought bigger would be nice for visual and typing as well, but it is hard for me to hold and the weight is difficult too, again MS could also be an issue.

I’ve never bought a used phone. Have you? (I don’t think I can still get a new iPhone 8 anywhere.) If you’ve bought a used phone before, any advice? Best place to do that, etc…

I had that same exachtech pen meter. They also had one that was the size of a credit card. The pen one had a display that was hard to read. The strips were in foil and there was no capillary action. So if you put a large drop you got lower readings than a small drop.
I think they fixed that in the version you have there.
Then the company went out of business.

Just found this interesting article.

I have been using True Metrix GO meters for years. Before these a meter that looked the same, but wouldn’t work with the new strips. I have bought my meters and strips out of pocket for years.

Here’s a picture of 2 meters and vial. The meter twist locks on the vial. That is a quarter for scale.

I feel your pain, TinaB. That is why I elected to go for the iPhone 13 Mini. It works just fine with the Dexcom, and I am on IOS 15.6.1. I chose the Mini for the same reasons you suggest-- it fits into my hand and is smaller than any of the other iPhones out there. Sadly, I just started the OmniPod 5 Loop system, and the Controller for the OM5 is HUGE! Thank God I do not have to carry that around with me all of the time!

Mark Gurman, a typically very reliable Apple reporter for Bloomberg, wrote earlier this week that Apple would not be releasing an iPhone 14 Mini. “But, as I’ve covered exhaustively, there will be no iPhone 14 mini to succeed the iPhone 13 mini . Instead, Apple is focusing on large devices.”

I tried that one out. It is definitely the smallest meter out there. But I got very inconsistent results with it.

I like the Contour Next ONE. It is a little bigger, but the accuracy and consistency is amazing.

Even when comparing between multiple meters. I have never seen tight grouping like this from any other meter. Here is an example of what I have seen from the Contour Next ONE. Only a gap of 5 points between all of them.

When I compare other meters, I often see gaps of 15-30 points on the same blood drop.

I like their meter. I wish I could get a better price on their test strips. I get much better price on my One Touch Ultra strips, otherwise I would use the the above meter.
