I have been doing this LCHF for a week now, My BG is generally good but it does tend to rise quickly after I take my fasting reading and before I eat breakfast. I am, as I have forever, having only two meals per day. I take 10 units of toujeo, and 15 units of Humalog twenty minutes prior to each meal. I am having very consistent meals; 2 eggs and three strips of bacon in the morning, (I have never liked bacon: just the look of all that fat dosent do it for me!) For dinner I have 1.5 cups of cabbage, brocolli, or cauliflower, with cheese or a couple of sausages. I had tried three eggs for breakfast but found that too much with the bacon.
I am not sure how I know if I go into fat burning mode. Any tips, concerns or suggestions appreciated, SweetPee
Have your blood sugar readings improved?
I also have a wicked case of Darn Phenomenon and I need to take a correction dose of Humalog in the morning just to offset the rise. Even if I don’t eat breakfast, if I don’t take that correction my blood sugar will just rise and rise.
I also take a small rapid acting insulin correction when my feet hit the floor in the morning. This BG-rise is not exactly tied to the time of day as it seems connected to when I physically rise. I don’t get up at the same time every day.
I get the impression that you’re not enjoying bacon and eggs in the morning. I think you should enjoy the taste of whatever food you eat. There are many choices within the LCHF menu of foods. Lately, my go-to breakfast is made with Chia seeds, cinnamon, vanilla extract, melted butter, walnuts, and berries. It’s yummy and I’m not getting tired of eating it several times per week.
Here’s a recipe posted by Adam Brown of diaTribe:
My recipe: I mix 1/4 cup of Chia seeds, 1/2 cup of water, a hearty amount of cinnamon, 1 tbsp of coconut oil, 1 tsp of pure vanilla extract (zero sugar), and some combination of random toppings (usually frozen raspberries and nuts or sunflower seeds). After about a minute of stirring with a spoon and about a minute sitting, it turns into a pudding-like gel. It can also be made in a batch by quadrupling the recipe. There are many other recipes online too, though most have way too much added sugar.
Hi Terry4; Yes, my morning rise in numbers seems tied to my getting verticle. Thank you for the recipe. I want to continue with a fairly constant diet until I get this figured out; then I can start experimenting. Bacon is something I was never really fond of, but I am including it because of the fat content! SweetPee
Thank you for your response Brian_BSC. How many units of Humalog would you take to offset the darn phenomena. I tried taking 6 units one day and the BG continued to rise for the next hour until I took my regular dose and had breakfast. SweetPee
Everyone is different. I have T2, I take 6-8 units. But your diabetes may vary.
