Amanda, I live for the joys…be it a sweet treat once in awhile and a good ole’ shot of my humalog to enjoy it, or just waking each morning and so grateful I have another day to to find that joy !

Oh, I absolutely agree about the joys. I learned when I got into recovery from my eating disorder to cook and enjoy healthy foods, by making them yummy. Feeling deprived sucks and for me I can’t stick with something that makes me feel that way. So I also learned to look for my joys in non food related things.

Zoe. That is good…I am glad you have recovered. I went through a bit of that when I was in my early 20’s…just not a good thing for sure! Yes, joy in non food related things…I am happy to have those, because I love food too! Ugh! lol

i cant stay away from asparagus! LOL just kidding…

i don’t eat anything with sugar but i always get a carb hangover when i go visit my mom and she makes me Indonesian food.

Hey guys, whole wheat pita chips with hummus really does it for me, but its such a healthier option if you’re a chip fan. I made them for supper today, 35 carbs all together, they were a healthy treat

I love food so much, I love to cook, to experiment with new flavors, to enjoy the same treats my grandma made when I was growing up, I love to eat out too, cook with friends or family, really love to go to the farmer’s market and pick up fresh food, try dips with my son… I really enjoy food.

I wish I put more time into deciding what to eat, most of the time I am good, but well I know there are somethings that I should probably replace with healthier choices, and I know healthy food can be really yummy and satisfying… of that I have no doubts… the thing is that in most cases you need time, determination and organization. I guess those are my weakness :wink:

Suzanne, girl I am with you! My roommate is always baking. I’ll take a spoonful of dough or batter over the baked treated anyday. Too bad my blood sugar skyrockets!

My food weaknesses are usually the ones that mess up my bs. I can’t get enough Thai food but boy, I need a huge bolus for that. And I can’t ever stop at one serving.

My other weakness: a cup of coffee and a delicious scone and a crossword puzzle. Coffee and crosswords don’t do much to my bs, but a scone sure does :slight_smile:

Sushi rice. Delicious sticky hyperglycemic sushi rice.

I actually adore asparagus and it’s always in season here. Only problem is I adore it on an english muffin with hollaindaise sauce and eggs…my absolute fave breakfast!

Mmm…indonesian food! I love anything spicy. Ok, I’ve had an eating disorder, acid reflux and now diabetes. If they give me a disease that can’t have spicy food I’m on strike!!

Yeah I know what you mean about cooking and enjoying good food and the time factor. When I retired (after working two jobs for a couple years to be able to retire at 58, I knew that cooking interesting dishes would be one of the thing I’d do with my free time. Then I moved here to Guatemala where I didn’t have the wide choice of special ingredients I was used to from California. I got past that obstacle, then wham, I realized how drastically I had to alter my diet for my diabetes. But I have the time so I’m just determined that I’m going to be a diabetic gourmet cook! Oh yeah, and I’m a vegetarian which makes it that much harder; I’m used to eating lots of carbs. I’m excitedly awaiting delivery of “Carb Conscious Vegetarian” that looks like it has some good recipes.
