Do you have someone you’ve met on TuD who has been a mentor to you, a hero, someone you look up to… Someone who has helped you learn, and manage your D? Or simply just been there to listen to you, or hear you vent on those crappy days?
EVERYONE! I have gained SO much insight on my D from this community. It has helped me to get where I am with my D. Everyone’s words of wisdom, what worked or didn’t work for them, tips or tricks, and all of the uplifting comments when I have a bad day.
I’m not sure I have just one person I could name. So many people have been helpful with their insight, suggestions and support.
Me, Kimberly? I guess it is. How many other vegans are on here? I am glad I helped you - although I never realized I did!
You are one of my heros on here because I feel like we are in similar situtaions - having no insurance, jobs, money and being new at this. I understand and empathise with alot of your posts on here ,more than some others. I glad you decided to stay. And hey we are only a state away from each other!
Everyone on here is great with all their various questions and tips and the community so you know you are not alone! I like reading the funny threads and everyone stories of how they got here - that is when I know that I am in good company.
But I will say that when I first found this site and started posting on here and had no idea what I was doing that Gerri and bsc were the ones who really helped me out of my confusion with all my super dumb newbie questions (they still do!). Esp. Gerri with her help for all the low carb suggestions - I think that made the most difference for me. I have all these tasty recipes to try yet! And I finally understand how to do the low carb diet part of this - if I hadn’t come to this site, I would probably be eating potatoes and pasta and bread (non low carb of course)!
Dave_, the Sure-T guy! Without his posts, I would still be using Sils and would have run out of usable infusion sites on my body. The Sure-Ts hardly leave a trace after I remove them whereas the Sils left ugly scars and unusable areas for months. I miss that guy…it’s a pity he’s no longer a member here.
I have quite a few… First is Manny and Adreina for founding this wonderful site.
Lois La Rose for showing me what real strength is
Rick Phillips because he always gave me advice and helps me out when I need it the most.
Joanne for always being there and taking time out to actually meet me and build a good friendship
Robyn for all of the love she gives. One of the most caring people I know
Mohammed for always being there to brighten up my day
I truly (from the very depths of my heart) love Robyn. She has guided me through so many problems with my health, finances and other cr*p that I soon came to expect her to be there for me. For shame on me! So wrapped up in my own little world of problems and crises, I failed to see or imagine the depth of Robyn’s concerns. Now she needs to turn to others and I am of no use to her. Not the way to treat friends if you don’t want to lose them. And Robyn is one person you don’t want to lose.
The second person is Gerri. Always there with humor, concern and advice. Easy to talk with and a tiger for your protection when you need it. Remember, Gerri, the time you threatened legal action against the administrator at Mount Carmel if they didn’t treat me with more concern and respect? I still chortle at that one!
Joanne, Dov, and too many more to mention. All dearly appreciated for their actions on my behalf. And to all the others that were mere strangers to me at the time … thanks for all the prayers and thoughts during my hospital/rehab stays and during surgery. I’m doing better than I thought with one leg!
KISSES!!
Lois La Rose
*Manny for creating this wonderful place
*Doris Ann (Doris D) for welcoming me and so many of us in the early days of Tudiabetes.com
*everyone you mention above for the reasons you mention above
*lots of members who seem to have moved off the site but who taught me so much when I first logged on
*all of you who have dealt with this for a great portion of your lives
*all of the parents who care for their precious diabetic children
*Whoever it was (Marie?) who taught me my favorite motto, “Too blessed to be stressed”
*all of you who have words of wisdom, support and caring for whoever, whenever
ummm… YOU! And everyone you mentioned, and everyone that everyone else mentioned. Seriously though, I don’t think any of you will ever really realize how much of an impact you make on peoples lives. I joined what, 5 or 6 months ago? Maybe more… but anyway, when I joined my sugars were always in the 300’s and I was doing 400 units of insulin a day. The advice I received here now has me in NORMAL RANGE for the first time in 8 years, and I’m doing 50-100 units depending on the day, some days I don’t need any at all. That is ONLY because of the wisdom and advice I got here. I literally owe ALL of you my life. I can’t imagine what I would be doing if I hadn’t been encouraged and educated by everyone here. So I guess in truth, you are all my TuDiabetes hero’s, but Lizmari… you are my cyber-Mom.
Pavlos because he is really smart and has the same sense of humor as me (dry and cutthroat)
Angela (whom I met last weekend at a Beat Diabetes benefit in Dover NH) because she is just the sweetest person I’ve ever met and I can finally talk to someone who "gets it"
1HappyDiabetic- Bill. Tho I don’t really talk to him as much as I used to, he was the one who motivated me a little over a year ago to really take charge
Dave_ because tho he says things in a harsh way, I understand what he’s trying to say and he is really smart (tho a little pig-headed. haha)
BSC because he offers so much information and is so knowledgable
Holger (GlucoSurfer) because he checks up on me when I’m “missing” for a few days. He is also someone who will care about you, even if he’s never met you, and he’s across an entire ocean.
But, pretty much everyone on this site is amazing and I’m entirely grateful for all of you.
Sorry I’ve been out so much lately. MIA due to new living arrangements, new job, and just trying to get back into the swing of things called: Life.
I think everyone here is a TuDiabetes Hero! We all pull together for one another - and try to help out in the best way we can do! As I have said many times over - wish I had this sort of community of like minded souls over the past 40 years. I’m making up for lost time the last few years since joining TuDiabetes and other diabetic forums!
Anna from Montreal aka FatCatAnna - The Roller Coaster Ride of Diabetes! Whoo! Whoo!
Manny and Andreina for making this site possible
Judith and Robyn for their unflagging optimism and compassion
Gerri for her balanced views
Melitta for her tireless advocacy
and everyone else for knowledge sharing, feedback… and entertainment!
I tank EVERYONE HERE! I really thank Manny for setting up this site! Marie B has always been there for me even in my worst of days, don’t forget Teena, robyn, Andreia, LOTS of ppl here!!! When I took off for a year and ahalf everyone here welcomed me back with open arms! That was so great! Kinda like Cara here!
I honestly can’t name just one person or even a few. I take what others have to offer and truly admire and love my many friends, whether I interact with them regularly or just once in awhile. Many have a very special place in my heart, but I keep it open for anybody else that wants to come in.
TuD Members/Friends have done more for my life, heart and soul than I could ever do for anybody else.
I’m going to shout out to Lizmari and Marps, because they were my first friends here. Thanks Ladies.
aw I love you guys so much! This site has really helped me in ways that I can’t express (and I’m a writer! It’s my JOB to express myself!) When I was ready to give up, you guys saved me.
Heroes in plural as everyone contributes to the best of their capabilities …is my answer to your question Lizmari…everyone on TuDiabetes is a Diabetes Champion 24/7 !!
My Biggest hero is Bill aka 1happydiabetic! He has helped me to accept my diabetes more everyday. His videos are informative, he is down to earth, and he has inspired me to do my own videos/blog about diabetes…
Also the founder of tudiabetes, Manny. He does awesome work here and in the community!
And Janis Roszler, RD, CDE, LD/N of dlife.com
Thanks Danny!!!
My hero is William Rounds, diagnosed with Type 1 in 1923, the year insulin was first available. He was born that same year and diagnosed when he was 11 months old. He has now been Type 1 for 86 years. Still alive and kicking!
I am sending my thanks across the ocean
