I haven't blogged on here in a while so I decided now was a good time to add one.... for the past month or longer I have no been able to keep my sugar down after meals. my morning starts off great I usually wake up at about 100-115. but the second I put any kind of food in my body were up to 250 or higher for at least 3 hours or longer... which gets frustrating cause I'm usually hungry in between meals!!! I am still on my Lantus but no novalog, my Dr put me on junuvia pills even tho I am type cause I am so sensitive to the novalog but I am considering it may be time to add some in because I having high sugars like this is only hurting me! does everyone agree i should call my Dr? what is everyone's sugar around after they eat a meal?
sincerely, frustrated!!
I must add that I am still fairly new to this but in 2 months it will be my 1 year and I feel I need to educate ,myself more than ever!! I really want to control my sugars and keep my A1c down I'm sure its high now!!
It sure seems like you could use some post meal help with some rapid acting insulin. I would definitely discuss with your dr.
I agree with Jim, you might need rapid acting for meals. I take Humalog it is a pretty good insulin. It starts to work within 15 minutes and peaks around 1 1/2-2 hours. It very closely matches the release of the sugar from your meal. Also don't beat yourself up, it is a life long learning process. Sometimes things that work one week might not the next and being a women also adds other variables. For example my sugar goes just crazy when I am about to start my period, so I have to changes doses because I seem to need more insulin during that week, then all the sudden a couple days after my sugar is perfect I can even get a way with a little chocolate!! Then when I was pregnant with my daughter it was weekly sometimes daily changes. You also have to account for how active or inactive you were, what you ate when you ate. You will figure out how certain foods affect you and how much insulin to take, for example pizza. I take a little more then half a dose of Insuiln when I get ready to eat pizza but then about 2 hours later I need 2/3 more units. Just work on the day to day and write everything down, that is very helpful to help you remember how a certain food affected your sugar and how much it affected it. Good luck!
God Bless,
Nicole
Starting a rapid insulin can help manage your blood sugar surges from meals, but for many of us, while it is "help" it doesn't solve things. Many foods cause my blood sugar to soar, wheat, bread, rice, pizza. A key thing about managing your blood sugar rise at meals with insulin is counting the carbs in your meals. You might be very surprised at the number of carbs. I know I was.
This is frustrating for me to. I can wake up with a really good fasting number and have nothing to eat and my numbers rocket. I think this is the dawn phenomenon. I have really good pre lunch numbers so I try not to sweat it...
thanks all! talked to my Dr and we are gonna work in this. better portion control and wiser eating habbits may help to !! yes it is frustrating to keep these numbers under control but let's see how it goes..... I guess the honeymoon phase is tough to keep up with
