New and approved for Omnipod!

I just found out that I was approved last week for the Omnipod. I am scared, conflicted, elated, sad, happy, and every emotion in between.

I was diagnosed T2 in May of 2000. I managed to stay controlled by diet for 7 years. In 2007, I separated after 23 years of marriage, and divorced in 2009.

During that time, I became non-compliant and have had the hardest struggle to quit quitting being diabetic! My self-esteem plummeted, and so many other things caused me to just stop acknowledging my T2 issue.

Well, now it's a big issue. My A1c is at 9. three years ago it was at 5.5.

I checked Dr. Bernstein's book out of the library, and am taking it in, and I am awaiting the arrival of my pump and all of the paraphernalia that goes along with it.

I have been better at checking my BS these last few weeks, and I am listening to diabetes lectures on YouTube, as well as trolling TUDiabetes and other sites for information and advice.

I am resolved to lowering my A1c, and ready to take better care of myself.

If any of you have any advice on how to turn my attitude around, or simply want to be friends with me, I welcome all gestures!

Thanks so much for reading my story!
Carol

I didn’t know they put pumps on 2’s! Wow! It’s quiet a responsibility a pump! It’s a big checking commitment. Just to get my approval and go ahead I had to submit 3 months of detailed logs! With my pump I do around 10 checks a day, but I don’t mind them now, because I like the numbers I see a lot better if that makes sense. I used to hate checking because the number = failure on my part. Now it’s not. If its messed up, omnis going to fix that right now don’t worry is how I see it! I hate MDI, right now I’m MDI’ing waiting on tomorrow’s mail! Lol (my fault omni offered me ship the failed pods or send them with next month and I chose send them) and I was a day off! As for motivation I like to say, how I dealt with diabetes today is just for today (like an alcoholic) tomorrow might be different. If it sucked today I’m not a bad diabetic if its great tomorrow I’m not the worlds best diabetic. I’m just a person with a crappy disease who gets tired of having it somedays.

You will love the pod and it WILL bring your A1C down. Mine was 13 before pod and it was 7, 1 year later. You will love yourself again...I do and we all care. As Emeril would say BAM!!!! Matt ( Trust me I have been there.)

Depending on a lot of factore, Type 2's are often asked to go on shots or pumps these days. It all depends on how much insulin your body can make. As we age, it gets worse for all diabetics to either produce or even use insulin properly in our bodies. So your journey is not un-expected.

Best advice I can give is that you should feel a difference quite soon after using your pump. You'll have more energy, sleep better, feel better. It's a great thing. Some feel it just a little, other's it's an eye opening difference. I hope yours is as good as many of ours have been here on the forums.

Been on the omnipod for just under a week, I was on MDI previously and you were lucky if you could get me to check my blood sugar once a month. I hated to see bad number, I was constantly on one extream or another, really high or really low. I was always taking my shots but I just dialed whatever I wanted. I completly get where you are coming from when you say "you quit being a diabetic". I wanted to do better and I just didn`t Now that I am on the OmniPod I have seen a drastic change in my blood sugars, I test anywhere between 7-15 times a day. it is so motivating! For me I think the OmniPod was the push I needed to get my life back on track.
best advice I can give you is to keep at it, don`t let little things derail you in getting your D life back in order! once you get use to the omnipod, you will see that it is a huge stress off of your daily life.
Good Luck!

Thank you all for your support! My Omnipod is in the mail, and I am beside myself with every emotion possible.
TUdiabetes just might save my life!

I was very depressed before being diagnosed with D1. Thought it was due to my son's death. It was, in part, but getting my BG under control made a world of difference on my outlook. I hope you find a similar benefit when your BGs get back under control. Best...

I have been on the pod for a month. There's a learning curve, but it gets easier and more natural every day. There is so much great information (and people) on the internet to help you through. I recommend reading "Think Like a Pancreas" for great concept introduction and "Pumping Insulin" to fine-tune your results.

Good Luck!
