Just wanted to share my excitement (no one else I know would understand the excitement I have for this). I met with my doc yesterday and ordered up my very first pump! I went with the Medtronic 630G (insurance coverage is what really swayed my decision on the Medtronic (I really liked the contemporary fashion of the T-Slim better)). I can’t wait for it to get here and get the training and start using it!! Really looking forward to the better control. Delivery is slated for about 4-6 weeks and its going to seem like a lifetime!
Since I went with the Medtronic 630G now (and you have to do it before the end of the year), I will get the free upgrade to the 670G when it gains FDA approval - hopefully in 2017. That was a nice bonus.
Congrats and good luck with your pump! Learn all you can while waiting for your pump. You should be able to download and read the 630G users’ guide.
Have you read Scheiner’s Think Like a Pancreas? How about Walsh’s Pumping Insulin? If not this would be a good time to get ready for your pump. I firmly believe that while the pump is a great diabetes tool, the knowledge and motivation of the person with diabetes is the most important aspect of living well with diabetes.
Try to secure a working knowledge of an insulin to carb ratio, insulin sensitivity factor, insulin on board, and duration of insulin activity. Also read the package insert of the insulin you’ll be using. Get to know the onset, peak and duration of your chosen insulin.
Ooo, good reminder - I have read “most” of Think Like a Pancreas I stopped when he really started writing to people who pump (without a pump, it wasn’t really making sense to me). Now, I’ll go back and read the rest!!! Thanks!__
I upgraded to 630G and am expecting to receive it by end of this week. how is your experience with the 630G so far… The main reason I went with this one is because of their almost free upgrade to 670 when released in april.
