Other sites besides thighs?

My Omni Pod rep told me to not use my abdomen, so that's out. I have tried my arms, but they don't absorb well, and my sugars are always high. I have tried around my back, but it's impossible to sit down. The only site I like is on my thighs. Is there anywhere else I could try? Would my abdomen be okay? She said not to because of the scar tissue that has built up using my Minimed. I really don't know where else to go.

I would try your belly, you can angle it in so many ways hopefully you can avoid the scar tissue it has always been a favorite with my son... it is worth a try, where were you going on your arms, Jacob does tricep area closer to armpit with good success.. but everyone is different best of luck amy

I'm not really clear where my abdomen begins or ends and how it differs from my belly, as I have lots of each. I have always used these areas, never done the back, arm or thighs. Look in the manual: it shows all the sites. People usually place where they can reach, avoid the possibility of bumping, and get good absorbson (sp).

there are a lot of threads here that really helped me, try searching. people use sites that aren’t represented in omnipod’s “available sites” diagram. I’m having a hard time with absorption and am experimenting with rib area (I’m skinny) and different parts of my arm. you’re not alone - it can be a tough road, this experimentation. keep us posted!

Abdomen and belly are the same thing.

Dude, do not follow what the Insulet Rep told you. He has no idea about your state of diabetes or needs. Only follow your Docs advice or a diabetes educator. If you feel you're not getting absorption well, it might not be what you think. Only a doctor can tell you what to try and have any real effect on your control.

As far as what locations to use, Insulet has info for this: https://www.myomnipod.com/about-omnipod/faqs/

Also, I wonder if the rep had confused that you shouldn't wear the pod within 2 inches of your navel with what he told you?

I spoke with Ironman Jay Hewitt at an ADA Expo event in Denver and he was wearing his pod on his upper back, pretty much over his shoulder blade. I've heard guys can get away with this.
I, personally, am not having any luck on my abdomen. It fails within 24 hours, if not immediately. The best spot for me is the upper part of the back of the arm--- close to where the arm meets torso. It's a relatively small area though, so I'm not sure how this is going to work out for me, long term. Good luck to you.

How about your buttocks or hip?

Look at this picture and you know where to set your pod

Did you try the backs of your upper arms? I'd give the abdomen a try! I use the outer portion of my upper leg as well, below the thigh.

I have been successful using my calf muscles. But be cognizant not to knock the pod off when getting in and out of your vehicle, I have knocked off a few times. Also, I have had much success when placing the pod on the inner side of my triceps.
To avoid blood sugar spikes, I bolus 1.25 units before I remove my pod, change it, then bolus another 1.25 units after the change - this has been helping avoid those spikes. Hope this helps.

Seems odd they've told you not use your abdomen, it's the BEST area. If you have scar tissue in certain areas of your abdomen try other areas. I have luck with my arms and lower back right above my waistline / or beltline so my pants to rub against it. Are you pinching about an inch of your skin when inserting a new POD? If not try it, it'll help with absorption and occlusions if that's been a problem. The side and top of the buttocks may work as well.
