Guys, I'm going to the doctor tomorrow and would like your feedback before I see her. The BG control has been pretty good, although I seem to need to eat less carbs to get it, with each passing month.
I'm tired of the getting up in the middle of the night to pee, every two to three hours. Otherwise, I have no trouble sleeping. And I don't seem to pee more often in the day, at least it doesn't bother me daytime. Anyone here have good BG control but still peeing too much? It's full bladder every time, light clear yellow. I go to bed usually with good BG, but it may be up to 124 and if it does, then I definitely know I'm in for a lot of potty trips.
Well, when I was first diagnosed… I would say the first 6 months, even with good glucose control, I peed a LOT. Also, once I started transitioning to drinking just water, and nothing else. But after that, it settled down… I think I was just plain very, very dehydrated for a long time, and it took a lot for the body to adjust… Plus, I was never a great water drinker, you know… so on top of the Diabetes, I was not well hydrated, anyway. Now, so long as I don’t drink water much past 8 pm, I do okay. But it took a while to stabilize.
This happens to me too every once a while. Sometimes I can sleep through the whole night and not have to pee and other times I feel like I have to get up a couple times and the bladder isnt’ full always either. I used to drink alot more water before I was diagnosed even right before but really never had to get up to pee in the middle of the night. I drank it because I wanted too - not because I was thristy.
I got very dehydrated right after diagnosis and had to go to urgent care for fluids. Once I recovered, I was drinking a lot of water to stay dehydrated and I did have to get up maybe once or twice to pee in the middle of the night. Than it sort of stopped and I could sleep through most of the night and not pee once. Yesterday I didn’t have to get up to pee.
I am trying not to drink anything too close to bed time and try to drink it all during the day. And like you I don’t pee too much during the day. Sometimes I wonder if when this happens that maybe we might have some bacteria or a slight UTI and just can’t even tell. It drives me nuts sometimes but it is not like I need any Depends yet or anything. But yeah, no harm in getting it checked out.
I was wondering too about the possibility of my BG maybe going over 180 when I sleep (when sugar spills into your urine) and maybe that is why I had to get up and pee. But I go to bed at a normal range and wake up at one too. So it seems odd that it would skyrocket all over the place at night.
LIke John said you could test when you get up to pee and see where you are at.
I’m back from the doctor. She thinks overactive bladder and proscribed VESIcare, but I don’t think I have an urgency problem. It is a full bladder every time (I told her that) and it’s normal to have to pee if you are full, right? I may try it, but am leery of the side effects listed for it. Maybe peeing a lot isn’t so bad.
No, I’m not taking any blood pressure meds and at night my sugar is not going high (I tested last night as you guys recommended).
Thanks for the feedback and any more comments welcomed!
I have the same problem and so does my daughter who is not diabetic at all. She go some anti-pipi pills but said the side effects were worst than the syndrome. Could be our biological clocks are off and my daughter and I are night people. Not sure what you have to do to fix that.
Hmm, I am also a night person. I never really had this problem until recently. Well, I DID notice that I had a what I call “weaker bladder” after I had a bad UTI (and slight kidney infection) about 10 years ago and anytime when I have a UTI or after I recover from one. I tend to be a more “random” pee-er.
I don’t think being a night or day person has anything to with it. I have always been a night person and I didn’t always get up to pee during the night. I find that not drinking liquids too close to bed tend to work most of the time. I do my big drinking morning and night (it is considered a good idea to drink more water when you wake up to rehydrate your body after the nights fast).
Could be you are right I may go even more often during the day more annoying at night. I did not find much difference between drinking a moderate amount late and not drinking at all. Of course coffee and beer would be an exception as these are: input one and have to output 3 so they are to be avoided.
