Just wondering if anyone has gotten this vaccine? My new doctor mentioned it, but I had never heard about it before. Just wanted to get opinions before I made a decision.
Your post caused my to look at my immunization record. I had a Pneumovax-23 vaccination in 2011 and a Pneumococcal Prevnar 13 vaccination in 2015. I found this chart online published by the Immunization Action Coalition.
It’s my understanding that diabetes puts us at an increased risk of developing pneumonia. I have had some respiratory illnesses in the past that convinced me that I needed a pneumonia vaccine. The above chart seems clear to me but it appears that my vaccinations may have been administered in reverse order. Not sure what this means; I’ll ask at my next doctor’s appointment.
I don’t know if it’s the same one, but I had a pneumonia vaccine in 2008. Whichever one it was, it caused an immune reaction that made my arm swell up for two weeks, so I’ll hopefully never need another one (my doctor didn’t say anything about needing more than one dose at the time)
