Preferred Lancing Device

It is, but I think the part that makes it "fast" is that it changes the lancet and primes the device in one step. Whereas the Multiclix has two steps, so you are able to skip changing the lancet if you want to (which I do all the time). The Fastclix comes with six lancets per drum, so if you test more than six times per day and it forces you to change the lancet each time you also prime to prick your finger, and you test more than six times a day, you'd end up having to change the drum more than once per day. (If that all makes sense!)

Wow, I would WAY rather prick my finger a hundred times! LOL!

Everyone has their hang ups. I once told my dentist that too, he said he didn’t have the chair for that ; ) .

I have a multiclix but have not used it yet, what put me off was the notion that you would have to change the drum after six texts which seemed a little wasteful to me?

Is this not the case?

I have been using the BD microlet 2 for a year or so, which I like as it is small, however the gauge setting keeps shifting around in my bag which is irritating as it invariably causes me to have to prick my fingers twice.

Don't most lancets only have one use instead of six of the drum?? Personally I change it once in a blue moon. I reuse each lancet many many times.

Oh yes, now I understand. Of course that makes sense. Nope, I'm not interested in that! I'll stick with the two steps and reuse my lancets as much as I want thank you!

I once told a doctor who apecialized in men's healt the same thing and he said he didn't have the patience for it. Oh wait - I think he meant patients.
Okay, mine isn't really true, but Deannan's sounds like it is. Funny story.

Yes that is what I meant, I currently change my lancet every 50-100 tests (whoops)

I thought that as a design feature of the multiclix the lancets withdrew into the drum after 6 uses and then the drum had be changed?

Nope, you can keep using the lancets, forwarding to a new one on the drum whenever your little heart desires. It sounds like the new version (the FastClix) is not like that though. Not giving up my Multiclix!

As long as you do not rotate the top end of the lancing device - you will reuse the same lancet as last time. There are six rotations/drum. How many hits you use it for before rotating the drum is up to you.

You can reuse each lancet in the Multiclux as many times as you want. You change lancets in the drum by twisting the back of the Multiclix (it’s not automatic). Once a drum is at the end, you can’t go back and reuse it. I twist the back of my Multiclix to change lancets about once a month.

This is the deal - no needle is prescribed to be used more than once. So technically, you get 6 per drum and then it should be changed. That being said, I am once a monther too. I reuse insulin needles too. The risks are infection, but I mentally try to rationalize it that its my own blood and obviously the benefit cost and laziness. I am glad people are more open about discussing reuse. My sister is a vet and screams at me as obviously bacteria etc. from reuse could be on the needle and give you an infection. To date, if anything for me, it dulls the needle and hurts a little more.

Laziness may be an issue but for many it might be cost. I am a religious use-oncer but some insurance company foolishness made me look at my 2012 bills for lancets, needles, etc. I was surprised to learn that I paid over $900 AND the trolls at the insurance company reimbursed NOTHING even though this stuff is covered 100%. Don't want to hijack this thread so I won't mention I***rance again.

I am friends with my dentist who knows my story. The funnier part is he could have said "I wish I hard a chair for that." I can't remember as we are always joking that being said. I am serious, I hate the smell of getting a cavity filled or the vibration of the drill more than a pap smear and lancets are right up there with those two in the anxiety an anticipation it causes me. I could inject myself with insulin with a dull needle 100 times, but I absolutely could use Xanax everytime I prick my finger. And hence begins my love affair with the Multiclix.

I believe if your healthcare costs are like 7.5% of your income, you can deduct them from your taxes if you file with deductions. I'd check with an accountant. I know I keep track of every dime from copays to lancets, and make all premiums are given to my accountant.

Yeah for those of us that reuse the Fastclix probably is not a good idea ; ) . Now I am thinking what if they discontinue the Multi? Seriously the price of the multi had quadrupled on amazon since I last replaced one.

Hmmm...and the Multiclix is the only lancing device with a drum where you can reuse? I may stock up on drums in case it goes out of production. My first batch have lasted nearly 6 years!

Interestng. I was just thinking that I would just stay with my syringe method, when I remembered that my hatred of spring-loaded lancets is so great, I always ask to lance myself whenever it needs to be done by other people (iron check when donating blood, dr's office bg checks). They used to let me do it but now, they refuse after seeing the old syringe and wondering what sort of creatures are living inside the cap. This could be the answer.

Hey,. Deannan, I just looked the thing up and it says it has a bunch of adjustments. Do they have a setting that says, "don't let the lancet any closer than .86 inches away from the finger" ? How did you go about setting yours?
