Does anyone use a Bra Strap to strap your pump inside your bra?
Have you found a good product or brand that you are happy with? Do you have any recommendations or referrals to a specific company to purchase these? Were there any such brands or straps that you were not too happy with the product?
I stick my pump right between my breast and I have had no problem. I have never used the bra strap. If you find something that works good please let mw know.
Great and needed topic. No! I’ve not found one and find ridiculous the concept of sewing the Minimed pouch (provided upon request for this purpose) into a single bra.
I recently had a pump failure after wearing it in a bra, between my breasts, on a hot and sweaty day (NOTE: those of us sufficiently endowed to hide it can do this, though I’ve heard this is not possible for other women). Minimed’s guess was that the hairline cracks visible on the case had provided sufficient access for moisture to get into the unit and destroy it so I’m being very careful now.
I have purchased bra bands from this company: http://www.uniaccs.com/thumbnail.asp?id=2&cid=47
They seemed to work okay for me, but my sister is currently in the works to “perfect” the perfect bra band. I have already informed her how important it is that the pump does not fail due to too much sweat. I have had this happen to me once before as well, I was wearing the pump between my breasts in a pump strap and my pump failed due to excess moisture…I was playing soccer at the time.
But, I love “hiding” my pump in my bra. And, this is currently the only place that I am aware of that sell’s pump bands. I need to wear a wire bra with a thicker middle section to secure the pump with the band in place, since I have a “smaller” chest size.
I can’t wait to hear from more people regarding their experiences and ideas.
Believe this or not, a few years ago I took an old bra and cut out one of the cups. I then sewed it up so my pump would slip in. It was comfy…I wonder now what happened to it!!!
I wear the clip that came with the pump and put it in the middle of my bra (on the outside of the bra)…this way it does not seem as offensive when i have to pull it out to bolus, but truthfully I wear it more on my pants or shorts… I just clip it with the clip it came with right on my shorts… no belt needed, no fuss no muss…
Amy: I’m confused by the manufacturer’s statement “Bolus right through your bra without taking pump out”. How do you do that? I’m using the continuous glucose monitor too, so there are all those alerts and alarms to respond to as well!
A friend of my mom’s gave me a great tip 4 years ago when I started pumping. Rather than purchase the bra pouch from MiniMed, buy a pack of toddlers socks and some velcro. You can then velcro a sock that will hold your pump into your bra. I’ve been doing this for years and it works extremely well. Plus, it saves a lot of money!
Have any of you mastered dosing or responding to alerts without sticking your hand down your shirt (as promised by Uniaccs, the manufacturer’s, statement “Bolus right through your bra without taking pump out”)?
I have only bolused without taking the pump out to manually bolus, by using the remote control that works directly with the minimed pump. I am not sure what that company means by their statement? hmm…
I have a very vague recollection of having received a remote control! I must have it in the original box. Can you give me the 30 second description of this? It’s a separate device, evidently. I’ll go do some research, but if you know offhand, I’d love to know if it reflects bolus wizardry or CGM alerts.
mine only bolus’s for food. It does not work with the wizard or cgm alerts. Very basic. For me, one click equals 1.5 units, if I click it 2 times…I give myself 3 units of insulin. Very basic, I believe…
I ordered the remote with my first pump (1994). It was really helpful until the bolus wizard feature came along. Now I hardly ever use the remote…maybe to Suspend the pump when I’m in church wearing a dress!
I have a minimed now and use the audio bolus to just press buttons through my shirt - make sure the buttons are facing out! The remote was WONDERFUL for this. I’m being really cheap and not buying another (gave my first one away) but I should - I used it a ton. I remember it being a little more challenging when I had the cosmo - but not too bad. Baby socks also work well for a number of things - get the ones with the rubber designs on the bottom of the feet. They keep the pump from slipping and also reduce static… Size 0-3 works best.
I, too, like some other on here just clip mine to the middle of my bra on the outside. It’s easy to access and I’ve never had a problem with it being uncomfortable.
LMAO… sorry but this just hit me as funny… well said. 8)
Seriously though i’m just amazed that you ladies actually find it ‘comfortable’ to wear a pump in some of the ‘locations’ discussed…??? Also not trying to be creepy or disrespectful.
I wear my pump in my left bra cup, to balance me, I wear my pedometer in the right cup. I find it easy toget to the pump to bolus. I have had some concern about moisture especially in this 90-100 degree heat and 100% humidity. I don’t wear it at my waist–sometimes the tubing falls down and I have people on the subway staring. I would welcome any thoughts/help/tips about a holder for the bra. Judith
