Pumping Our Insulin

Group for those that are pumping. Come and exchange tips on using your pump. Discuss the differences of the different types of pumps out on the market, infusion sets and pump accessories.

Sure, T2’s can use pumps, its increasing in popularity in recent years. It wouldn’t be a good place to start . .meaning if BG’s can be well controlled on orals, or oral combination that would be the way to go. Once on insulin (fast acting @ meals and long acting . . ) then it might be appropriate medically . . .but need to make sure with an educator that its appropriate from a Use Model standpoint. (Ex. if someone is 80 . . .are they mentally capable, and will they be for a long enough time into the future ? )
The youngest I have put on a pump is 14 months, the oldest; 82 . . .an “Engineer” !

Hi, I was wondering if anyone has had issues with infusion sites failing after 2 days. I have been pumping for two years and have never had this problem before. I usually use a my stomach area and rotate the site. I use a minimed quickset. Thanks, G

finally…we had to wait almost 4months to get our pump hooked up!! But we’re up and running, the first 2 days went great, now we’ve run into dropping to fast. if my daughter is high and she will be eating in about 45 mins, should i wait to do a corretion with her meal, or do the correction, then do a manual bolas with her meal? what do you do?

I am considering going on a pump. Any suggestions on which brand I should go with? If so what are the advantages etc.
Thanks

I went on the pump 24 years ago when I was pregnant. I weighed 85 lbs then…I have gained 43 pounds over the years. At times I was able to lose it (when I was younger)…but now it will not move. I have been dieting (I hate exercise) and it is not working. A fellow diabetic at work started taking symlin shots and she has been losing weight. I thought I might talk to my endo about it on my next visit at the end of this month. I have reduced my basal insulin due to more healthy eating and sill no luck. My brother is 10 years older than me and has had diabetes 6 years longer, and he is skinny…go figure. Good luck to all of us diabetics trying to lose weight…It is TOUGH! Hang in there…you’re not alone.

Hi everyone, planning on getting a pump in the next year but confused on which one i should get. any idea’s anyone???

I have been told by my doctor that I don’t need a pump the shots are working fine. I am looking for another doctor as this one does not know any thing about pumps and does not have the time to check them out.
But the main reason I am writing is I want to make a pretty beaded and/or embroidered pump bag for the ladies to wear on special occasions.
I do not know the size of the pumps I can figure out where the line comes out from the different photo’s but I can find sizes of the different pumps. The best I can get is 3"x5".
Is there a place that lists them or can someone measure theirs and let me know.
Thanks
Deanna

I have a animas 2020

I just got the brand new Animas Ping and I love it! I had the medtronic paradigm 712 and went through 4 replacements in a year. I got fed up and decided to change. I wouldn’t go back if you paid me.

New KID here…seriously thinking about trying to move from MDI to pumping.OK OK I am not exactly a kid anymore, but whatever…I am hear to LEARN from you pumpers about pumps and pumping…

It took me a long time to make the switch to pumping. But it’s the best thing I ever did. Now I can’t wait to get CGM…stupid insurance!

I hated the idea of being attached to something, but once I finally got my pump I quickly realized it’s not that big a deal. It’s been so much easier to control my diabetes, my insulin usage has dropped by more then half and my a1c’s are better then they’ve been in yrs.

After 12 yrs of MDI my body just couldn’t take it anymore…scar tissue galore! I just wish I had made the switch sooner.

I’m a brand new ‘pump-er’! (as of Friday!) Medtronic…
Would love some advice as to what I do with it at night (and while trying to go to the bathroom! lol)…

i get my pump friday and im so so so excited. but i have to admit that i am a little scared too

My bloods have been terrible ever since I was diagnosed even with all the effort I put in. I’m more of a watering can than myself! I went yesterday to look at a pump and tried out the needle. It wasn’t as bad as I thought it would be. I’m now thinking seriously of going on 1. Any advise or a magic wand greatfully accepted!

Jay-jay, as you’re a kid you have a far greater chance of being cured from diabetes than someone like me who is 53 years old. Managing your disease through pump therapy of staying healthy longer in anticipation of that future cure. In my case moving to a pump over 5 years ago after being a type-1 diabetic for 15 years had really positive effects in stabilizing my blood sugar. After gaining better control of my diabetes I felt much better and was able to do more. As a kid you’ll master programming the pump much faster than most diabetics and I hope will realize the positive results very soon.

For anyone considering a pump…all I can say is “GO FOR IT”. I was on shots for 29 years & was hesitant to pump. But after 4 years of debating I finally switched over & I now wish I wouldn’t have waitied so long.its been almost 3 years now & being “attatched” is no big deal.its easy to adjust & live again
