Wow, Bill, congratulations…bet that you could hardly wait to sharee your good news. You proably had an idea based upon the numbers that you were seeing during your testing… I’m anxious to see mine as well. Less insulin…better BG results all part of the great benefits of pumping.
Janice, thanks for your comments. I admit that I was trying not to expect a big change this soon. My doctor called me about 10 minutes after the lab results came back to express her enthusiasm. She’s been ‘nagging’ me about my BG control for 20 years! Now she’ll start on my weight. Sigh.

The battle never ends…does it? My children…all grown had the misconception that, since I was using an insulin pump, I no longer needed to check my BG levels. I had to explain that that would be something that I would always have to do…even if I were to use a CGM.
Since I started on my mini-med in February on most days that I change my infusion set (every 3 days) my BG jumps 100-200 points from my morning reading (at best it doesn’t go down all day) and it takes about 12 hours to reach a normal level. Happens no matter where the infusion site is; I don’t change my carb levels or exercise.
Anyone have this experience? Any Ideas?
Thanks,
Bill
Hi Bill! I found similar problems when changing infusion sets. My solution is to give more fixed prime than they recommend (I give 1.2u) and check for lows. Also, if I see that insulin comes out when I remove the old infusion set, then I figure that I have lost some of my basal insulin and give a small bolus to cover for that.
In any case, I make a habit of checking my blood sugar 1-2 hours after site change to see what is going on!
Kristin, thanks for sharing your solution. I use the Silhouette and a .5u increase seems right. I check every 2 hours all day, and usually catch lows (and highs) pretty quickly.
Have you submitted you dissertation proposal yet? My wife just defended her dissertation and we’ve stopped communication with Post-It notes. What a journey.

hello all…new to TuDiabetes and new to pumping…going on my 6th day…IT’S GREAT, I LOVE IT!!!
Hi there, newbie (to tudiabetes) here, I’ve been pumping for 3 months and I can’t believe it took me so long to start.
I have a Paradigm 512 Pump that i no longer use. I have an upgrade. Does anyone know anything i can do with this older pump. I have asked JDRF if they know of anything i.e donating to someone who maybe cant afford to buy a pump or doesnt have insurance. Any help would be greatly appreciated!
Hi Falynn! Great idea! You can see if you cannot donate it to ipump.org. You cannot donate personally to someone through TuDiabetes, as this is a prescription item, but hopefully IPump will be able to get it to someone who needs it!
Here is the web site for ipump

I donated mine and they were very easy to work with.

Hi! I started on the OmniPod June of this year and am still tweaking to get my bg down. Have worn on my arm, abdomen and leg. Still getting high bg later in day…any suggestions? I love the free feeling of wearing the pod, trainer has been great with suggestions.
Hi Marcia, you can find more answers her, join the family
does any one know about how many carbs are in prescription cough medicine?
Ok, I failed to get any reasonable deal made with my substandard insurance so I have taken out a credit card specifically for the pump and ongoing supply expenses. My ping should come Wednesday. I am so exicted and so nervous! I just couldnt keep going the way I am - complications are getting way too scary and I am tired of being sick all the time! I have never had a good handle on my levels and I have had diabetes for 15 years! I think with some hard start up work this will be the change I need! Yay! Thank you to everyone who replied to my discussion post a few weeks ago
Yea… My pump rep, CED, endo, and dietitian and I turned my pump off saline and made it “live” with insulin. It has taken me over a year to get the Dr. approval and the insurance and everything… vacations (theirs not mine) yelling, orders misplaced it happened today ! My blue Ping is working away. We were on saline two meters and the pump and pen,for a week, I think they ust wanted me to appreciate the pump and the Ping meter more! After it was all done my Dr. offered us all a SMALL slice of cheesecake. Wow. yes I had some. and showed everybody I could bolis to compensate for it. So today is my new life day and I am happy !
Thaks to Tu for all the advice and lurking I have faith this will be a very positive thing !
I want to scream. EVERTIME I GET A NEW PUMP THE NEXT PUMP COMPANY SCREWS UP THE BILLING AND SEND ME AN INVOICE FOR MONEY I DO NOT OWE THEM. Last pump was Minimed Medtronic. They tried to bill an extra $5K until I started contacting a lawyer. Now Animus. The whole reason I went with a new company was to not deal with another medical billing nightmare. Always are mail is delivered after the office is closed. I was promised that they would credit me a certain amount is I mailed them my old pump. I mailed them my old pump and they have never credited my account for it. Last time I received an invoive they said the invoice was mailed before they received my pump and I owe nothing and that my insurance paid the remainder. Now a few months later ANOTHER $727 bill. THE MEDICAL BILLING PROBLEMS ALONE THAT COME WITH DIABETES MAKES ME WANT TO HANG MYSELF!!!
