I am wondering if there is more than one pump that is tubeless…I currently have a cozmo and it is being phased out within the year and I want to get the best pump that I can find…th
Yes… there is another one called the SOLO I think that will be out in 2012 I think. Omnipod is soon going to be 1/2 the size it is now! YAY… my son loves it.
Medtronic also has a patch pump in the works. No idea of expected release date.
Diana
I heard rumor that the smaller omni pod wouldn’t be released until end of 2011. Don’t k is how true that is.
If you decide to go w/the Omnipod the group here has been a ton of help…Love them!!!
Can you currently get a Solo demo?
You could before Roche bought them. I assume you probably still can, but I really am not sure of this. You might try contacting them from their Web site. Yes, currently the omnipod is the only tubeless on the market. Solo is speculated for a 2012 release date (in part b/c of the Roche acquisition). The solo, according to the current specs, will not be waterproof, so “functionally” it will be very similar to Medtronic’s current tubed pump as far as needing to remove it for showering, swimming, etc. This factor may not be a big deal for you, but I thought I’d at least mention it.
IMO there are also way too many parts to the solo. The pod is great b/c of its simplicity. It’s a pod. That’s it. No electronic pump that connects to a separate reservoir which then lays in a cradle/base, etc.
And Diana is also correct, Medtronic has one in the works (and in my opinion for it to be a such a potential money maker for them it is really hard to find any information about it, or a potential release date for it…). Here is a video on CNBC posted over a year ago where the CEO of Medtronic says “…in about a year it will be on the market…” and yet still no “patch pump” (that still has yet to acquire a name). The patch pump info starts at about the 3 minute mark on the video.
There are a few others, such as the Jewel Pump, but I haven’t been able to find any information about when it might be coming out. The reservoir is supposed to be 450 units and they tout it as up to a “6 day” wear time (even though all of the current literature recommends changing infusion sets every 2-3 days to prevent infection, decrease scar tissue formation, etc).
