Reaching out one more time on infusion set

I know I have asked this before but I want to make sure there was nothing missed :). My daughter who just turned 8 is having some issues when we insert her infusion set. In the arm its fine, but anywhere in the belly and she cries for 10 mins in pain :(. Besides using EULA Cream or ice does anyone have any tricks to help? We are using the Animas Inset Infusion sets 90 degree.
I also tried the Orbit micros that they were awesome (hardly any pain) but we found out she is allergic to the stainless steel they use.

Thanks for the help!

Have you tried the Inset 30’s? Instead of going in at a 90 degree’s they go in at more of an angle so the catheter ends up not going in as deep. Worth a try at least…

My only advice with the Inset is to make sure the Animas inset length is the right length for your daughter. They come in two lengths (6mm and 9mm I think?) and I actually feel like the 9mm hurts less for me than the 6, but your daughter may find the opposite. Does it stop hurting once she’s had it in for awhile? Or does it hurt the entire time she has it in her stomach? If it always hurts (like especially when giving a bolus), another thing you can try is slowing down the delivery of a bolus. This can be done by going to “Set Up”, then to “Advanced” and then to the 2nd screen under advanced set up. You have 2 choices “slow” or “normal” delivery. I find that normal delivery really hurts me, but slow is just fine. Also, it might be worth contacting your local animas rep to help you trouble shoot, or see if they can help you with finding an infusion set that doesn’t hurt.

Other than that, it might be worth trying an angled infusion set. I hope you can figure out what works for her soon! Good luck!

Thank you both for the suggestions. I guess there is no way around avoiding the pain.

Just a thought - My 13 year old son can not use his belly for sites. He is too thin. He does not have enough fat in that area per his doctor. We use backside and arms. I am trying to get him to try his legs, but I haven’t won yet. Good luck.

Hi! I am 23 years old and I can’t use my belly either-- it hurts too much! I pretty much exclusively use my lower back, on the sides. I have very little pain there… good luck!
