Scared

Hello my name is Cree Ann Tracy. I turned 20 a few months ago and have been diabetic since I was in 6 th grade. I use to have perfect sugars and then because of stress related things I lost control. My last a1c was a 9.5 and I’m the only one in my family that is diabetic. I have recently found out I was pregnant and I’m scared to death. It was unplanned and I have had high sugars for a few years now. I was 12 weeks when they found out I was pregnant and since them I have gotten better control of my sugars but I’m scared it was all to late. I never hear good things about being diabetic and having a baby. Part of me is excited but most of me is terrified. I have read things and all I keep finding is things about the baby having problems or having a miscarriage . I guess I just want to hear that there is a chance I will have a healthy normal baby. I’m scared I won’t be able to live with myself if I have a baby and it has to sufferer because of me.

you will be fine. Just to what your drs say. I had an unplanned pregnancy and now i ahve a happy healthy 2 year old little girl

I agree with Cody - do the best you can to take care of yourself and your baby and listen to your doctors. If you don’t really like the doctor you have now, this is the time to find one who you work well with. Don’t worry and stress about what “could be”. Focus on fixing what you can and let the rest go. You can do this!

I know it is so scary! We all in this forum know that, so its great you posted and reached out for help. There are thousands of positive examples of healthy babies born to moms with diabetes, just unfortunately hard to find them. I have three daughters, pregnancies were not planned, but with vigilant care and a lot of stress-reduction and support, it all worked out beautifully. I do hope you have a doctor and health care team you trust and like and feel safe with; this is so important.
You can’t change the past. Just do your best each moment and try to be gentle with yourself. Diabetes is so hard sometimes. Good luck!!!
If you like podcasts for information, check out a program I did with Dr. Liz Stephens - she is an endocrinologist and has type 1 and also is a mom. We talked about pregnancy on www.transformingdiabetes.com Hope you find it helpful. Take good care!!!

You will do great! My sugars weren't controlled at all before I got pregnant with my son and he came out healthy! He was three weeks early and 8 lbs but healthy. I even delivered him naturally. Trust me, if I can do it so can you!!!
