Pregnant and Scared!

Hi all

I have been hanging round this group for a while as we had been thinking about getting pregnant! I am now 33, type 1 for 3 years and have reasonable control. We thought it would take a while (from everything I had read) – but apparently not so as I am now pregnant (only 3 weeks) and to be honest in total shock!

We have been planning it for a while and now I am I am totally scared, how am I gonna cope ?? I’m hoping this is just shock and that I will soon come round as my husband is really excited (shouldn’t it be the other way round?)

Any help/advice would be more than welcome. Thanks for listening- I feel like I can’t really tell anyone else just yet!

1st thing is to make an appointment with your doctor/doctors. Get a good team in place to help you along the way. Just like I’m sure you did when you 1st got diagnosed.

Than relax, enjoy being pregnant & looking forward to being a mom. Wishing you a happy & healthy 9 months. CONGRATS!!!

Get an appointment with a high risk doctor, check your blood sugar a lot, and enjoy! Being pregnant is an exciting time, diabetic or not.

Take it one day at a time. That’s the best advice I can offer… make an appointment with your OB and your Endo. They will do all the worrying for you!

CONGRATS :). I have had two kiddos. - one planned, one ‘bonus’. My joke about Diabetes is when you are pregnant you get SOOO much attention its awesome. I felt so special and taken care of!!! Please remember this: yes, its scary and uncertain BUT its your doctors job (and all the supporting gang you will see) to take care of you and this baby. It is TRUE we can all have successful pregnancies being Diabetic. Yes, the kids can be larger, yes, they can and will be healthy, yes, you can do it. TuDiabetes will help and support you. ENJOY THE JOURNEY. It’s fun.

Now my kiddos are featured on an upcoming JDRF Walk poster saying “Zachary and Courtney, supporting their Mom Diagnosed at 25”. (they are 7.5 and 6)

Congratulations!!
Dont be scared, Dana couldnt be more right. You will get soooo much attention it’s great.more attention than your average person will get. Pregnancy is fun and beautiful. Make an appt straight away. Just remember to eat healthy, check your levels frequently, and call your endo if you have any problems. I just had my baby boy 9 weeks ago and he is just perfect. Big but perfect

Good luck with everything

Thanks for all your comments. I have booked an apt for tomorrow so I guess I will find out then. On the phone the nurse said that I will have the first of many scans in a couple of weeks (how can there even be anything to see!)
I’m sure I will get used to the idea soon enough!

Thanks again!
