Somebody cannot master a fax machine

So, I placed an order for a box of CGM sensors from Medtronic on September 28. I had 4 or 5 left in my other box at the time, but I was ordering super early in fear than Medtronic would take an eternity to “process the order” again.

Well, I sure was right. Admittedly I forgot about it for a bit. I mean, I work, I get busy, it happens. Well, I didn’t think about again until October 14, when I listen to a message on my machine from Medtronic saying they needed a new prescription from my doctor and they were waiting for a fax back before they could ship my order.

Really? It took you until October 14 to deal with this?

Well, a few more days pass and I don’t hear anything and my order status is still “in process.” -_______-

So I call on Monday and they say that apparently my doctor’s fax number changed and they didn’t know this (for two weeks!) and had just now received a new fax number and sent the fax over last Thursday. But they hadn’t received anything from my doctor yet.

So I hang up and immediately call my doctor. They say: “Oh yeah, we faxed that over on Friday.”

Great! Well, assuming all is fixed I wait and then don’t think about it yesterday at all until last night it occurred to me that I haven’t heard anything back from Medtronic confirming my order would be shipped.

So I call this morning and sure enough they didn’t receive a fax from my doctor. Are you bloody kidding me? So I call my doctor’s office, who assures they sent it over on Friday, but they will send again and I read off a fax number I got from Medtronic to make sure it’s going to the right place.

But this whole thing is ridiculous. It seems like between Medtronic and my doctor’s office, they could have figured this out a lot smoother and quicker. I mean, as much money as I and my insurance dish to both of these groups, shouldn’t they have their ■■■■ together a little better than this, or am I just expecting too much? -__-

Now I’m running on my last sensor, which I put in on Sunday. Chances are slimmer by the minute for me to get the new box by Friday. My sensors have never lasted beyond 8 days, even disconnecting the transmitter and recharging after 7 days like you have to do, doesn’t help me, even if I think I have the most awesome spot I’ve ever had for that sensor. I think my body just doesn’t like one spot for that long.

Anyway, I don’t like having my sensor schedule messed with. I always change my sensor every Sunday. And the idea of being without my sensor now after all this time sounds like a horrendous nightmare. I’m crazy dependent on that thing. How did I do diabetes for 9 years without it!?

Oh and in other news, this is just crazy cool: http://www.cellnovo.com/
iPhone pump!! OMG! XD

UPDATE: Issue has been fixed. About time! This time Medtronic actually received the fax, and are overnighting my sensors so they should be here very soon. BLARF! One of these days, I’m going to order a box of sensors and it won’t be so dramatic.

Also, faxing is absurd. Cannot we not move into the 21st century in this area?

Yeah, you’re expecting too much. Not! At least you know why the order was delayed and fax #'s don’t change often. Hopefully you will go years, if ever, before another screw-up. CGM sensors are great. Were you able to get coverage without having to be hospitalized or have lows below 50?

we are just one patient among many I guess is what they would say. I’ve had my doc’s office change my scrip without consulting me from 5 strips a day to 2 strips a day. It wasn’t even a doc who did it. It was an office worker who didn’t know that there is a big difference between T1 and T2. I’ve also paid co-pays for lancets that I did not want and did not order.

No hospitalizations, but definitely lows under 50 – though I’ve no idea if my doctor had to mention that or not. I am definitely very lucky that I have wonderful insurance.

That is awful your doc’s office would just switch your test strips down to 2/day!!! TWO! Gah!!
Lancets…heh, I have never filled a prescription for lancets after the first one when I was first diagnosed! XD
