Someone stole my Omnipod controller

This past weekend I was at a restaurant in the waiting room, I set my "Kit bag" which contained my Controller and tests strip's a some other thing all Diabetes related stuff, nothing of any value to anyone except a diabetic but it was in a small canvas bag that I guess resembled to some a purse. Anyway when they called my wife and I to our table I turned around and it was gone.We later checked with management of the restaurant in case a waiter picked it up but they did not have it, Any way I just got a new shipment of pods and was wondering if anyone who has gotten the new pod controller would part with their old one? I would pay for the shipping cost. I am in line for a new controller but it may be several months till I get it. I am back to 5 shots or more a day. I am a Type 1 who has lost his pancreas to surgery. I can survive ok, but would sure like to get back to the pods. Thanks for listening. I will check back to see if anyone can help. Dondi

That was a dastardly heartless deed! If the thief had any morals at all, they would have realized that this bag was way more valuable to you than to them, and simply returned the bag to the place they "found" it. It really hurts to realize the values that some of our fellow human beings hold.

I'd like to add you as a "friend." Please respond to your TuD inbox message.

Have you tried calling Omnipod or possibly your endocrinologist - I know my endo told me they always have a spare controller on hand and to call them when I have an issue as such.

I was in NYC over the weekend and was carrying my Pod controller and Dex G4 receiver in a small cross-strap purse. My biggest fear was having my purse snatched. My money and cars were safely in my pocket. I am so sorry to hear that this happened to you. I have only known the new pod so I can't help but I bet that someone here will. Best of luck!

I know how you feel. I left my controller in the airport on vacation last year, and it was never found. That was the most paniced ive been in a long time! I did have qwik pens along, which made me appreciate my omnipod even more. Luckily i had travelers ins, so a new pdm was covered in full. You would think someone would turn it in right away, since its useless to everyone but yourself.
Unfortunately i havent gotten the new pods yet so i cant help you out.

This is one of the few negatives of the pod, but a small one IMO compared to the positives.

LOL. How do you manage to fit one car in a pocket, let alone multiple ones? ;-)

She mean car "keys" I think, David. OP,Dondi, I hope you got a solution. I would hate to have to go back to shots, as well. Anybody else with answers?

Oops! LOL carDs

Thanks, I checked back the next day to see if someone had a change of heart. So far no luck.

The first thing I did was contact my Endro, she doesn't but is renewing my RX for Needles, I had only a couple and for some more pens. Have not tried Omnipod but will. Thanks.

Ugh ... that's so terribly disappointing. I do not have a spare, else I'd surely drop you a line. Best of luck!!!

Thanks, I think we all have that fear!

You were fortunate to have the insurance. The Thief was probably several blocks away and either did not know the purpose of the device or did not care. One thing is that I had this small inconspicuous carrying bag that was fairly attractive, sort of like a purse. I wonder if it was in a clear see-through bag it would make a difference. I hate being obvious in public but I hate losing my pod more. Thanks

Thanks, I just thought I would try and see. I am in line to get a new one when they have sufficient supplies. I was told it may be several months though.

There's one on Ebay right now.

I am so sorry this happened. I just started with my pod system last week and can't imagine what I would do if I lost the PDM. Well I can imagine but it too would involve returning to shots. I also have the G4 receiver. Both of them are labeled "MEDICAL DEVICE" IF FOUND PLEASE CALL Clare and I list my cell phone number.
I have a tally gear pouch for the G4 receiver. It is specifically designed to be able to view the screen and push the buttons without having to remove the device from the pouch on my belt.
When I ordered the Omnipod system I contacted the owner of tally gear and asked if she could possibly design a similar pouch for the Omnipod PDM. Since I was not going to be using the system for a week I sent it to her via Fed Express. In a few days she returned the PDM to me with 4 prototypes. One is exactly the same as my G4 receiver case and fits perfectly on my belt as well. She designed them so that the screen can be viewed and the keys can be pushed without having to take it out of the pouch and there is access for the blood glucose strip as well. There are some really cute colors and fabrics and designs. And while this won't help you now it might be a good option for holding the pod pdm in the future. I believe she has posted them on her website www.tallygear.com

I hope that you can talk to the Omnipod people. My experience with them from the outset has been nothing but positive. Even after just a week I have grown attached to the system. It has measurably improved my quality of life. In this day and age, it is rare that something actually lives up to the web advertising. Good luck.

Thank you for responding. Labeling them is a great idea. I had my name an no. on my pill case in the bag but not on the devices. I will mark my G4 receiver now, I have my G4 on a belt case and my phone but have not carried my Omni receiver on my belt. I already feel somewhat like batman with 2 devices on my belt, but one more is worth considering. The pods are really great and I miss mine greatly.

Thanks

The price is a little too much for me but I might if I can't get one through insurance or at a more reasonable price. I hate to spend so much when I will get a the new one very soon and it will be obsolete after that. I have been told I am already qualified for a new one but they are in short supply now.

Ugh! that's the worst! I sent you a private message in a friend request :)

Just a great Update on my missing Pod Controller. It was found and returned to me. I am so grateful and am thanking the Lord and all of my friends here at tudiabetes.org the response was overwhelming. Thanks again
