I’m not sure what is going on. I’m on the minimed paradigm pump and the last few days my fasting BG has been 220 or higher and after meals around 300. I’ve changed the infusion set, I’m not getting an error on my pump, I even ran a bolus through to make sure I could see insulin coming out. I put a call out to my Endo, but in the meantime, why would my numbers suddenly go from 100-120 to 220-300??
Outdated insulin ?? possibly try a new bottle ?? …my Novorapid seems to last 31 days .
I’ll check the bottle’s expiration when I get home tonight, but it’s a pretty new bottle…I just got a week ago.
Even if it’s a new bottle, it could have sat out instead of being refrigerated. Does the liquid inside look clear? I’d recommend changing out everything, including the bottle of insulin and see what happens. I never accept a bottle of insulin from a pharmacy unless I see if come out of their fridge. Even then, there is no guarantee it was stored properly between manufacture and sale. Unfortunately its a leap of faith.
Do you think you’re getting sick? Hormonal?
Hopefully you figure it out and get lower blood sugars.
Good luck
Might you be getting sick? I always see a huge jump in my BG numbers about 2 to 3 days before I have any symptoms.
The same happened to me over the weekend. My BG did not respond to insulin as it usually does. I kept correcting and correcting and my BG would only come down very little. As if the insulin was bad. I also didn’t feel that great. One theory was bad insulin. The other theory was being sick. I was determined to throw my open vial away and start a new one with the next pod. However, today everything is back to normal. Try correcting until your BG is back in range. Don’t rely on your established ratios until this episode is over. Diabetes is not predictable, at least not my flavor.
I have had a hell weekend as well. I think it was the site I was using and poor absorption. I changed sites and all seems to be well
There are so many reasons.
A kink in the cannula.
Bad insulin.
Scar tissue.
Low grade infection or other illness in your body.
Hormones - I always end up with higher numbers the week before that time of the month.
Too low a basal rate.
Carb to insulin ratio needs adjusting.
Diabetes has a mind of its own. Grrr.
Geez, it must be that time of the year for us. I was also thinking that you may be ill.
My sugars have been high also recently and I had to increase my Insulin doses. I got them back down but that didn’t solve the problem. I was also going to the bathroom more often.
So ya, I got a pain in my right kidney last night. I went to the Clinic this morning for a quick test and a prescription. No surprise, kidney infection. I’ve been on drugs for my other chronic disease, for many years, that shuts down my immune system. So I have no protection again infections.
Some People are just prone to Urinary Tract Infections(UTI) also. I hope that you can figure it out and that you are okay.
I also had some higher numbers than usual last night and this AM. Changed my infusion set and it got better. I also noticed some bubbles in my reservoir, guess I didn’t get them all out when I filled it the other day, and I am thinking that had something to do with it.
I see numbers like that around days 14-15 of my monthly cycle and somewhere between 20 and 28 as well. Ah, hormones.
