I’ll be switching from G6 to G7 with my T-Slim and CIQ after I insert my last G6 sensor this week. Any tips for a smooth transition? I’ve successfully transitioned from G5 to G6, for example, with no issues. I was not on a pump during those transitions. (I do know that I have to change the setting in my pump from G6 to G7 and that I’ll have to download the G7 phone app.) G7 was FDA approved for placement on the arm, but are other sites also as effective? Thanks!
I have read that the transmitter is less powerful so placement in line of sight to pump is more important than it was with G6. And yes, alternate sites work.
But I am staying with G6, so can’t help with details though I’m sure you can find info on it here and elsewhere online.
I have used G4, G5, G6, and now G7. The changes from G5 to G6 were fantastic, but literally the ONLY improvements for G7 are the shorter warm up time and the fact that it’s one piece (no more transmitter + separate sensor).
They say it is more accurate, but it’s a lot jumpier. Quick drops and rises that look like blood sugar is changing rapidly, but it’s just the sensor being crappy. I don’t love it. When I was using my pump, it really messed with the Control IQ algorithm.
I have worn the G7 on my stomach and my arm with similar results! I only used my stomach for the previous generations.
My advice - if you are happy with the G6, stay with it as long as you can. Dexcom really seemed to botch the G7.
I don’t find it a lot jumpier. It may depend on the person. For me, I find it works fine with CIQ.
I agree, however, that it’s not much of an improvement. It does give you an extra 12 hours at the end of the 10 days before it stops working which is useful.
FWIW, I switch back and forth between the G6 and G7 so that I can overlap them which makes up for the unreliability I experience with both of them in the first 12-24 hours after insertion. Switching back and forth, however, requires a buffer of extra sensors and to sometimes spend money on an extra transmitter so it’s not for everyone and not always doable.
Like Tnyc, I have done well with G7. No significant issues. Faster warmup and grace period are nice.
Be prepared to complete a lot of sensor replacement forms.
For smooth transition, I suggest reading the package inserts and look at some you tube videos. I switch from one arm to the next. You have to press hard to insert it. My husband actually inserts mine. I check BGs several times during 1st 12 hours and calibrate. No issues. Works well. Never have needed a replacement.
Good luck.
