Tandem Distributor, Solara Medical

Sam doesn’t make sh!t up. If he says that things went the way they did, I believe him.

CCS doesn’t cause any unnecessary problems for me. If they did, I’d be using another distributor

That’s what I was referring to

I’ve had a signal loss about 10 times today lasting from 10 to 30 minutes. does that mean it’s the transmitter most likely?

I’d guess it’s the transmitter. Did you force restart your phone?

My guess is that it’s the transmitter. The transmitter has been active for 60 days. That should mean I’ll get a new transmitter.

Oh and it’s still under warranty.

Definitely call Dexcom and see if they’ll replace it. Hopefully, you won’t be on hold for a few hours.

I know. I’ll wait for it to fail it came back just now after 30 minutes again. I’ve had good luck with dexcom customer service.
.

I doubt it. They directed me to Pumps-It in Texas. I’m very happy with them. And as @Robyn_H reports, she was directed to Byram. This is all dictated by which suppliers are approved by the insurance carrier. Perhaps Solara is widely accepted by insurance carriers. If Solara and Tandem have a business relationship to process these orders, so what?

But from what you describe, I wouldn’t touch them with a 10-foot pole if given the choice.

I got my Dexcom and Animas supplies from Byram for a time. I was very happy with them.

Wish I was fortunate enough to have a choice. From everything I can tell (and there’s been no shortage of legwork) solara is the only distributor that’s contracted with my insurance…

That sucks. I’d never heard of them until I called Tandem about a pump.

I’ve gotten multiple different explanations.

I used to order direct from dexcom. In early 2019 I called and they said my insurance now was solely contracted through solara. So my first order there allowed for 6 months of supplies and all went fine…

Next couple orders were nightmares and they for some reason without explanation insisted that my insurance only allowed them to bill for 90 day supplies… even though they’d just sent me a 6 month order before that… so they turned into a big headache… I gor back in touch with dexcom and talked to several different reps—- one told me solara was the only option, one said o should try USMED (which I did and they told me they weren’t contracted with my insurance—- same thing with Byram…) at which point I called back dexcom and they said that no indeed solara was my only option but I could also go direct through pharmacy—- which I was thrilled about so I immediately had my doc send the rx to Caremark… who denied it and told me I need to go through a dme supplier (even though the dexcom is clearly listed in my Caremark formulary—- apparently my specific sub-plan doesn’t honor that portion of the formulary…

So a fair bit of gray hair and angst later I’m back to square one dreading my next order through solara

I feel for you brother. Nobody should have to go through this crap.

I’ve been getting my G6 supplies from Solara ever since I starting using it almost a year ago. I haven’t had one glitch yet in ordering or receiving my Dexcom supplies. Everyone else is right though that one persons experience can be radically different from another, as of right now Solara is the only supplier I use who is consistently getting things right and every other diabetes related thing I need is pulling teeth to get.

If given the choice, I would completely avoid solara medical supplies. I will never give them my business again given how many mistakes they made that could have been easily avoided if they were capable of basic customer support and logistics

Thanks everyone for your insight.

Since I am on Original Medicare I have no idea if there is a certain distributor that I have to use. It looks like I will veto Solaris. I will stay with Dexcom direst for Dexcom G6 supplies and have indicated to Tandem I would prefer Tandem direct for Tandem pump and supplies if that is possible (never had to deal with a distributor before), give me list to choose from or if forced to pick one I will choose CCS based on Thomas1 recommendation. I will let you know. I am sure I will hear from Tandem today.

My leverage is that I don’t need to buy the Tandem Control-IQ although it is only leverage.

if you’re on traditional Medicare only, you won’t be allowed to order directly from Tandem. You will be forced to use a distributor.

Ok, thanks.

When I moved to Medicare, I got my Tandem supplies through CCS Medical. That worked great the first year but when 2018 came, CCS absolutely refused to continue to supply me with sufficient infusion sets for an every 2-day change. They wouldn’t work with my endo to get the proper documentation. At that point I switched to Solara because one rep really went to bat for me and worked over a couple of weeks to get the needed documentation. For that reason I am staying with Solara although I seem to have issues with delays on every order. Every order takes a couple of phone calls but I do always get what I need.

I also get CGM supplies from Solara and it works OK. I left Dexcom when they were being slow switching people over to G6. In retrospect I wish I’d stayed with Dexcom but it’s not a big deal because Dexcom wasn’t always that great either.

I work very hard to have a backup stash of pump and CGM supplies because I seems to have delays left and right getting what I need.
