I have been very satisfied with the opsite flexifix from Smith & Nephew, as for extra holding power for my sensor. I used to cut four strips to hold it in place, and have recently began cutting from a (homemade) template that keeps the actual sensor uncovered (as required).
I was thinking, wouldn't it be nice if Dex would contract with S&N to make opsite pads that are already cut out? This way we (users) could just peel it back and plop it on. I am not sure how to get this ball rolling, so I thought I would put it out here first. Any interest and ideas?
Personally I would like to see something like you've mentioned. My Dexcom and sensors are "out of pocket" expenses and I try to make my sensor last as long as possible. And while Dexcom is in the 'bargaining mood' I would like to see them make it possible to use Tylenol as a pain reliever w/o frying Dexcom sensor.
I just use an old sensor with the sticky fabric removed and trace the outline with a sharpie, leaving a little room. Then I gently fold the piece of flexifix and cut out the hole with scissors.
I stick on the sensor and insert the wire.
Then I peel one side of the flexifix and carefully stick on putting the hole over the sensor. Then peel the other side while smoothing it on your site or just fold over and peel and gently stick on. You can then remove the grid on top.
If you trouble folding you can just make the cut through 1 side and cut out the outline. Though it really isn't too hard to fold if you fold the right direction.

It would be great if you did a video (correct term?) of your description showing each step. For people who need to see it to visualize it!!
Or, if you don't do videos (I don't) then a photo of each step? Pics that don't obscure the step with fingers! Amazing how many how-to videos have key steps/objects obscured by hands/fingers.
Also, some time back, someone said to wait to put the flexifix on until the sensor tape starts to peel. If I do that, I never can get the flexifix to stay on. It peels up too. This is such a tricky thing, doggone it!
What a great idea to make your own template. Thanks for sharing, I need to put in a new sensor today so I shall try your idea straightaway. :)
Your idea works very well with a product called Infusion Set IV3000 by smith&nephew. I used an old sensor with sticky fabric removed and traced around it on the IV3000. Cut out the template, inserted sensor and then placed the IV3000 around the sensor (with sensor exposed). Seems to be working well --- again Thank You for sharing Brian.

which size IV3000 dressings are you using?
Ironically as simple and obvious as it would seem some of those details escaped my common sense. I read your post and thought why didn’t
I think of that lol. I have a stencil for my tegaderm but i used a box cutter to cut out the area. It would have been simpler to just draw it onto the tegaderm then cut it out lol.
