As this forum draws to a close, I wish to thank Manny Hernandez and the many others who brought life to TuD! This forum has given me many important benefits. It connected me with a huge benefactor, a fellow T1D, who got me hooked up with a DIY AID system nine years ago. This system improved my A1c and glucose variability but more importantly, my quality of life.
This community provided a place for me to participate when I experimentally started therapeutic carbohydrate restriction. Looking back at that time in 2012, I can now easily see just how important and pivotal that time was for the peaceful metabolism I enjoy today!
I remember the spirited discussions (some might say rancorous disagreements) that formed my foundation of belief that this dietary intervention was worthwhile. And sustainable, 13 years and counting.
TuD provided a place for me to sort out some of my difficult and complicated emotions as I dealt with my stroke in 2022. Many members expressed their kindness and support during that time. Thank-you!
TuD gave me, a dyed-in-the-wool introvert, a place to write and interact with my community. It helped me realize that expressing kindness and gratitude are the real gems of human communication. I need to continually remind myself of that.
Everything goes through birth, growth, and eventually recedes into the past. It’s one of life’s lessons I’m trying to accept. But I’m not going to focus on TuD’s end, but on its fruit. It has helped me a lot. For that I am grateful for the selfless efforts of Manny, his crew and all TuD supporters!
Thank you everyone who wrote in with perspectives that helped provide support and supplement failures in the traditional healthcare system in a way that pushed medicine and patient care forward. You all are a great community that really helped me. It’s great to find the hidden places where trust can still reside in medicine.
@Laura_S , On November 3, @rarabt1, the apparent spokesperson for “The Beyond Type 1 Team” posted this:
That’s why over the next month and half, Beyond Type 1 will be transitioning away from the TuDiabetes forum and inviting all members to continue the journey with us on the Beyond Type 1 and Beyond Type 2 communities, where thousands of people are having meaningful conversations.
“A month and a half” could mean 45 days for transition away from TuD. That’d be December 18, the day before yesterday. It could be any time now.
@terry4 says it better than I ever could- you’re a beautiful writer, Terry.
I’m pleased to see a lot of the Tud regulars over on the other site. I find your perspective and experience so valuable. You are the most clued up bunch of type 1s I’ve ever met! Thanks everyone for this lovely community
I appreciate the compliments from @CharlotteEngland and @Lisa_H1. It’s not what motivates me to participate in diabetes forums. I’m certain that my perspective is shared by many of the contributors here. We just would like our personal experiences learned while living with this frustrating and dastardly disease mean something and be used to help others who are engaged in the same struggle.
That knowledge is the holy grail for me. I don’t often get confirmation of this but when I do, it fuels continued efforts.
Many people cycle through forums like this. Most participants pass through in a few weeks or a few years. This transitory nature works against motivation for the more long-term participants. When our efforts are reflected back to us, it means a lot!
I hear you friend. It was a place I needed during a really hard transition in my life. I’d love it if Manny would send us a farewell… but it appears he’s not even a member here. Still looking forward to that coffee in pdx.
