I had an appointment with my Endo yesterday. I have been living with diabetes for only 6 months, was dx’d Type 1.5. I was on oral meds for only a few months, then Lantus, then NovoLog and now they say I am ready for a pump! I have spent a lot of time on this site and have snooped around quite a bit in the Pumping Our Insulin group…preparing myself for the next step. I am completely comfortable with the idea of pumping, my husband on the other hand isn’t so sure…he is just uneducated on pumping. He said last night, that my diabetes has really “hit home” for him now that I’ll be wearing a pump for the rest of my life, he says it’s more real to him now.
I called my insurance co. this morning to find out which pump they will cover…they won’t tell me, they say once I pick one and the referral/claim is submitted, they will then review it and decide how much $ they will cover…if at all. This really ticks me off…I feel like it is a dice roll…if I pick the pump I want, they could throw it back at me and I’ll have to choose again. I am sure there are many of you out there that have WAY more experinence with insurance co.'s than me, but I was shocked by what they told me!!!
That’s very strange about the insurance. Many (most) here have the Minimed, but I have an Accu-chek Spirit, and I love it! I’ve had their pumps for 18 years. They have always handled all the insurance claims for me, and are wonderful in every way with their customer care. . You also get an extra (backup) pump, so there is no need for a plan if something happens to your pump (rare, but it happens).
I’m glad you’ve been checking us out! Go to Forum, then insulin pumpers, and you can search all the discussions we’ve had in the past about various pumps and pumping. Did you know our founder, Manny, is a type 1.5 pumper?
