Treatment/ Cure

I'm sorry; you're right.

Those genes only code for one thing. Most of the time, those fish genes that are put into a vegetable were found first in a vegetable with a favorable trait. It has the same DNA sequence as the vegetable trait, but for whatever reason, it's easier to isolate it from a fish.

This is false and misleading. Unless you are from Papua New Guinea or the Arctic Circle, your diet does not resemble that of any but perhaps your very, very recent ancestors. Their diets would vary widely, depending on their lifetimes and locations. They almost certainly lived much more active, but much shorter lives.

The plants and animals we eat today are the results of many thousands of years of selective breeding. Crops we have been eating for most of the 20th century have been products of chemical or radioactive mutation breeding techniques which altar their genes far more drastically and arbitrarily than the current bioengineering that we are so concerned about.

As disturbing as this all sounds, not a shred of evidence indicates GMO's or metals as a factor in T1 Diabetes.

Whatever you do don't stop taking your insulin completely.. I know of someone who did this who died, she was type 1. As of yet, there is no cure for type 1 because we need to stop the autoimmune reaction to cure it. So far no one has figured out how to do that. Years ago, before insulin, all type 1 died, type 2 figured out they could extend their lives by eating low carb. If gluten free helps you reduce insulin needs then do it. A lot of ready mead gluten free foods are very high carb though unfortunately. I've had to eliminate grains & anything starchy for the most part. I disagree with the metal theory, I was diagnosed type 1 and went into dka about 3 months after I had all my metal fillings removed due to one which cracked my tooth chewing on a toffee. So there goes that theory.. lol. Metal fillings are terrible though because they cause your teeth to crack over time. I had two cracked molars from them.

I didn't make myself clear, evidently. My point was that our ancestors didn't eat preservatives, antiobiotics, gargantuan amounts of sugar, etc., etc. The danger of GMO foods has not been empirically demonstrated to my satisfaction, but even allowing just for purposes of discussion that it had, it's only one grain of sand on the beach.

I had one metal filling done. I was five, it was my first cavity, and it was huge. When it fell out years later, I ended up with a root canal and a crown.

When my dentist recommends the metal fillings because they last longer (the white ones start to break down after about 3 years, the metal ones after 6), I tell him no because I'm allergic to nickel and there's nickel in them.

Wow! what a great response, which I wasn't expecting at all. there's too many to reply to all, so just a few things I wanted to say. First I'm not paying the Dr...I met him and he became a friend and is treating me for free... so I understand those that commented on "firing him" etc...but you can't fire someone who's helping you for free :) :) Second...yes type I is an autoimmune disease...BUT there is a reason behind WHY it happens....everything that goes haywire in our bodies has a reason. Fix the reason...fix the problem...does that make sense?? It's great reading all your posts...I'm learning much about your diets etc!!

Again, I have to caution you. There may well be "triggers" for T1/LADA, but you cannot reverse time and go back and evade the triggers that caused you to have T1/LADA. And while there are some "triggers" that have been hypothesized such as those discussed in Dan Hurley's book "Diabetes Rising," there isn't any evidence that avoiding those triggers in the first place is at all effective. And avoiding them after you already have T1/LADA in the hope that you will be "cured" doesn't work. However it occurred, your body imprinted on your beta cells as "foreign" cells and now your body attacks beta cells with your own immune system, triggers aren't in the equation at all.

That being said, many of us do find that wheat/gluten causes us particular problems. I just want all of us to make informed decisions about our health. We should look for "evidence" that things work. And we should always be cautious about things we hear, the liver detox, the worm diet, the supplements, the raw vegan diet, the prayer cure, anything labeled homeopathic, and yes even naturopaths (many who are not licensed and are "out there"). And I would urge you to look up your friend to see if he is licensed. And I don't always trust my licensed doctors, even "specialists" like my former endo.

You need to decide how you will look after your health. Just because someone is a friend and you don't pay him doesn't mean that you need to follow his advice. Perhaps this is an example of "you get what you pay for."

You DO know that insulin is made in the US thanks to GMOs, don't you?

Well keep up updated here, SOME of us KNOW a way to reverse this is out there! Just because no has figured it out YET just means it hasn't been discovered! They used to believe that man would never fly either.

I am so with you! Don't let these others here get you down. They have accepted their lot in life. Sad for them but not our problem! Lets find a way to get rid of this damn thing!

Totally agree!

GMO just means that they took the gene they liked from one plant and gave it to another.
In the past, our ancestors selected for foods based on traits they liked. They bred out what they didn't like and bred in what they liked.
Think about it: the tomatoes you grow yourself always taste better than the ones from the store, right? But the ones from the store are bigger and less likely to be damaged. Why do you think that is? The tomatoes are bred for different traits.
GMO is just a more precise way to do that. Imagine being able to grow tomatoes that are big and ship well but also taste great. That's what GMO is for.
If you're going to start a crusade against a food, you're better off not eating the preservatives and antibiotics and hormones. Those against GMO have "proof" that doesn't show anything. Find the sources for their "facts" first and decide if they're reputable sources.

STUNNING COMMENT!!! See my comments in a few! LUV YOUR POSITIVITY!!! GO DEAN GO!!!

Go for it as long as you keep taking your insulin.

I would love to hear more of your treatment! This sounds similar to a plan that almost cured me! I was so close to fully being cured after following a similar sort of plan as what you are now on. Do not be discouraged whatever you do…continue with what this man has suggested and please share with me what you are learning from him. Thanks!

Having had T1 for 27 years and saying that you were "close to fully being cured" is of great interest to us. Could you share more about this? What did you do? What led you to believe you were being "cured?" Did you have tests to confirm increased c-peptide and insulin production? Did you have tests that showed that antibody levels dropped at least?

Did this happen soon after you were diagnosed? Some people are able to go off insulin completely right after dx(honeymoon phase) if proper treatment is applied. I was at a very low dose right after treatment(~.1U/hr basal and 1-2U bolus at each meal) and that number has slowly risen, although not too much, over the past couple years. Eliminating gluten from the diet especially, regardless of how long you've had diabetes, can have a profound effect on blood sugars and insulin dosage..even though its not really a 'cure'.
Its good to hold out faith and hope for a cure, and its definitely possible with the all the medical advancements, but I think we need to expect that there will never be a cure and come to terms with that. Then we can move on and enjoy our lives in spite of having diabetes.

Thanks! Though I am a bit incredulous about the original post. He says his naturopath claims to have reversed T1 in several people. I would like to hear from these people. I can tell you all for certain that if I did find a way to get rid of this I would be screaming from the rooftops, telling everyone I know. And yet I have heard these types of claims before but never from anyone who has had T1 for years and now no longer take insulin. I require proof!

That said, I have been using a lot of cilantro in my recent experiment as well due to its ability to help with heavy metal removal. The issue about metal in the teeth though doesn't make sense to me as many kids are diagnosed even before the age of 5, and those kids usually have never been to the dentist, meaning I don't see metals as primary contributor to T1. Though am still open to the idea, just have to question it.

I believe in and am actively seeking a cure. But still one must ask questions, be persistent about debunking those who have the "cure" yet never seem to be able to prove it.

I was diabetic for 15 yrs when I found a program called “A cure for all Diseases” by Dr Hulda Clark. I followed her program of elimination of all toxins, heavy metals as much as possible and using herbs and her tools to eliminate viruses and foreign invaders in the body to allow it to heal. It worked after using the free program and free info to do all this I had come to the point of needing only less than 6 units per day. I stopped the program though due to wanting another child and couldn’t use the herbs while pregnant. On hindsight I wish I had just done the program until I fully recovered because I have so little energy to take it on today.

To each his own! Seeking a cure does not mean life is not enjoyed nor does it mean not taking care of oneself at the same time.

The real downside is if one were to really find that right mix, cocktail, therapy to reverse this, one could be in danger of getting too much insulin and dropping very low. However, to find a way to stop this is worth the risk. And if I figure it out, you will all be told about it!!!

May I ask now many grams of carbs you would ingest daily during the 6 units/day period?

Wait! So you know of a way to cure this, have actually gone through it all before, but now are just choosing to live with Type 1 diabetes?
