Type 1 and Positive Pregnancy Test this morning!

I have a high risk OB and a regular OB plus my Endo. I’m seeing a doc (one of the three) every two weeks, sometimes once per week. I get an ultrasound once per month. In the third trimester, the OB has said that they will be giving me an u/s every two weeks till delivery to make sure baby is not under any stress and is okay in there. I asked her about induction today, and she said that due to pre-existing type 1, they are likely going to induce me at 37 weeks, instead of waiting for the full term of 40 weeks. Which means my baby won’t be an August baby, but a mid-July baby! I can’t wait to meet him/her! We find out the sex in two weeks! Currently 17weeks and a few days along.

I saw my endo every 5 weeks, my CDE every 3, my high risk OB AND my regular OB every 4 weeks (until the last trimester, when it became every 2 and then weekly in the last month). I would see my OB on Mon or Tues and my high risk on Friday there toward the end, so that I was seeing someone every few days. That’s just how their offices coordinated things.

Thanks for your advice Melissa and congrats with your little girl! I dont even know if I will have the first trimester lows also, i havent had them at all yet, and I have been keeping my sugars in the 90 range as much as possible, I see my regular doctor and my endo today, these are my first appoiontments so I’m really excited, a little scared and nervous about that, but mainly excited  How is your daughter doing now?

Marps!
Thats so exciting that you find out the sex so soon! are you hoping for one or the other? I would like a regular OB and a high risk OB I think, so I’m gonna ask about that, what would you say are the benefits of having two and is it your call to make if you have 1 or 2? When they induce you early, will you deliver vaginally or by c-section? I am so happy for you and hope that I can have a successful pregnancy as well!

I’m hoping I can deliver vaginally. I want to do it completely natural… except in a hospital. I asked and the gyno said I can deliver naturally even if I’m induced, but I guess it really depends on if baby decides to go into the labor-ready position.

As far as doctors go, it’s always my call as far as where my health is concerned. If I don’t want to see a doc, I will tell them I don’t want to. They suggested I see the high risk docs on a monthly basis, and I agreed that I am high risk, so whatever is best for baby. The benefits? The high risk docs are more aware of what’s going on inside you as a type 1 and they will be honest if your control is tight enough according to your A1c. Also, you get to see baby in an ultrasound much more often. I have seen my baby about 8 times and I’m 4 months along. When I’m in my third trimester, I’ll prolly see baby at least once a week.

I really really really want a boy. But honestly, after all the crap we’ve been through in this pregnancy, a healthy baby will be so wonderful no matter what the sex.

Be diligent with your BG and try not to stress and the odds are in your favor to have a successful pregnancy. Good luck!

Kristin, Have you ever tried agave syrup? It is similar to honey but with a lower glycemic index, so helps keep blood sugars much more stable than, say, honey or sugar. I use a tablespoon in greek yogurt for breakfast or sometimes to sweeten decaf tea. Lots of uses! I asked my endo and nutritionist about agave, but they had never heard of it…

Mariah,

My typical pregnancy diet goes something like this:

7-8 am: Breakfast is scrambled eggs (1-2), whole grain toast, and greek yogurt with a tablespoon of agave syrup to sweeten and about 10 berries on top. So far I havent had any problems with fruit in the mornings but am watching bc I may have to cut that from my diet so early in the day. Approx 45 g of carbs total.

10-11am: Snack of a protein or granola bar, which is 10-20 g carbs depending on the kinda I am having that day. Usually anywhere from 8-14 g of protein.

1-2pm: Lunch is usually peanut or almond butter on a whole grain English muffin (25g carbs) or a turkey sandwich on whole grain (30g carbs)and an apple (20 g carbs)

4-5pm: Snack is greek yogurt or apple with peanut butter if I didnt get one in for lunch. (no more than 20g carbs)

7-8pm: Dinner is usually chicken (I dont eat red meat or pork), brown rice or whole wheat pasta, and at least 2 servings of vegetables (Although I try for more!). No more than 60 g of carbs for dinner.

Good luck with your first OB appt! I was SO nervous for mine but they just did a health history, ultrasound and pap smear.

I have always exercised, and am continuing to do so throughout pregnancy. I am finding it much more more difficult to prevent lows during pregnancy, and have found that eating a fast acting carb snack (or sometimes a few glucose tabs if I have recently eaten and am not hungry) and doing a temporary basal rate for the hour and a half or so that I am working out. It seems to work ok most days but still have been struggling with lows during and post workout.

I am also on a Dexcom, and LOVE LOVE LOVE it. I just got it about a month and a half ago and already my A1c has significantly dropped. Dont know what I would do without it!

Good luck with your appt today and cant wait for an update!

Thanks Hayley! I’ll check it out!

She is constantly in motion, exactly as she was in utero. This was taken today.
