VerioIQ: my experience

I recently had a chance to give a whirl to the OneTouch VerioIQ glucose meter and found the experience to be fundamentally positive. ![|373x480](upload://rfQgyBdlLybqNCli5GAC8F2HY1Y.jpeg)

POSITIVE

  • The patters are a big help. When you have entered enough BG readings, if there is something you should be aware of in the way of a trend with your blood sugars (regular high/low at a particular time) it states it.
  • One of my favorite features was the ability to test in the dark (literally). The photo above shows how the device glows, including the area around the test strip, so you can not only see the result at night but also aim your finger to position the blood drop right in front of the test strip.
  • The way you test is more ergonomic and also faster. Once you insert the test strip, you can test very fast. You can do so in a more natural way, by approaching your finger to the side of the strip and not to the top of the device, which definitely feels less awkward.
  • There are no batteries to worry about: the meter is rechargeable via mini-USB, similar to many smart phones these days.
  • The device is slicker than previous generation OneTouch meters, with a nicer and more minimal user interface (the white color and large numbers on the screen also help) and it's also lighter than previous OT meters.
NEGATIVE
  • My only complaint: I often bent the U-shaped test strips when inserting them into the meter. They still worked, but they felt a bit more prone to bending than other strips that I've used.

In general, I found the device to be a step up from other OneTouch meters and a very good option compared to other meters in the market.

For the record: I received a sample VerioIQ from OneTouch with an extra 50 test strips to try out. I am not being compensated to write this review.

I love the patterns dimension of this meter. Thanks for sharing your experience, Manny!

Glow in the dark meter - that's a huge plus!

Great that it glows in the dark.... I like that. Sometimres I want to test in unlit conditions ( at a concert, in a movie theatre).. and I do not want to have to leave my seat to go where there is light to test. Manny, does it have a "link" component to send the BG reading to the pump? Didn't say so, or maybe I overlooked it, in the ad.

God Bless,
Brunetta

I LIKE THE IDEA THAT IT GLOWS IN THE DARK BUT IS IT COVERED BY MEDICARE?

Shoshana, I don't know, but I will find out.

Brunetta, I don't believe it has a link component to send the BG reading to any current pump, but I will confirm.

Here are the answers I received from OneTouch about the questions above:

-Unfortunately this meter does not link to the pump. They’ve heard this feedback from the broader community and have passed it on to their product team.

-OneTouch Test Strips are always covered by Medicare Part B. (Note: Coinsurance or co-payment and deductibles apply). OneTouch is working toward the best possible private plan coverage for these test strips. They’ve secured coverage on some major health plans and continue to add more. If OneTouch Gold Test Strips are not covered by your health plan, they are helping to bridge the gap by contributing up to $25/mo. I just started using this meter. "Fundamentally positive" is a great description. I've been taking some pictures in hopes to write about my own experience.
