What is your favorite low carb food?

I want to start buying alot more low carb items when grocery shopping. So do any of you have a list of your own? Thanks!

My favorite that I already buy is bacon & eggs. Such a great & yummy breakfast! But what about snack foods?

My favorite low carb food is cottage cheese. I use the low -fat type, either curd. There are 5 carbs. in 1/2 cup. It can be eaten with fruit- all types of berries. and veggies -raw celery, pepper, and any other you can think of. Sometimes I eat it as breakfast w/fruit and covered w/ nuts- usually walnuts and a dollop of light yogurt. Sometimes I eat it as lunch with the veggies or with the fruit (if I didn’t eat it for my breakfast.) It is also good as a snack in the afternoon.

I have never ate cottage cheese. It sounds so yum! I will give it a try, thanks!

Anything with cream in it.

1.8 G of carbs I think?

String Cheese and Almonds.

I like meat, cheese, and carrots.

Yum, now my tastes buds are screaming for, wait for it… … … LOW CARBS! ha, yay!

Anymore?
xoxo, mari.

Have you really found a 0 carb cabernet? My experience is that even the driest red wines still have residual sugar. What I have found is that once you are down to 3-4 g of carbs/glass, the effect of the alcohol itself is enough to counteract a few carbs and that my blood sugar is stable or will slightly fall when drinking dry red wine.

Depends on the carb levels you are trying to achieve.

My coworker eats a low carb tortilla with peanut butter on it every morning. Part of her weight watchers diet. Too many carbs for me, though.

I eat eggs every morning, almost.

The more fat in dairy products, the less lactose, and therefore less sugar.

If you get yogurt with 7 or 8 live active (is that redundant?) cultures, then that yogurt affects me less than normal sugar free yogurt. I read than the active cultures eat the lactose, so the affect on bg drops.

Most berries. I eat blueberries and/or strawberries with some cream or half and half.

Some melons are
pretty low carb for the volume you consume, but it is quick sugar.

If you want something crunchy, try celery with cream cheese or nut butter. Peanut or almond butter is higher carb than cream cheese, but sometimes the cream cheese doesn’t do it for me, and it is lower carb than popcorn. Also, pork rinds are really low in carbs, if they have any at all. Watch the sodium on pork rinds, though…

I am always amazed at how many PWD focus on lw fat products. Low fat means “processed” food. Take a look at the nutritional info. Low fat whatever will have more carbs and sugars that are not in the unprocessed version of the same item. Besides that, the fat will slow the breakdown of carbs to glucose. Dietary fat does not become body fat. I avoid all “low fat” products unless they come by it naturally like veggies.

Favorite low carb snacks; almonds, almond butter, peanut butter, cheese, zuchini spears, berries, greek yogart and Sweet Perfection dark chocolate bars (zero glycemic, no sugar alch., lots of fiber and taste great)

Oh my that all sounds wonderful, THANKS!

Dry red wine works well for my DP. Cheers!

Red wine at dawn! Sounds like a great title for a short story!

Here's a low carb turkey stuffing recipe from Gerri. It substitutes almond flour for corn meal and flour so it is truly low carb. The flavor is indistinguishable from real cornbread stuffing. I had been making do with just a taste but with this recipe I can have all I want.

Also Lindt 70% or greater dark chocolate. 2 squares with some pecans has no effect on my blood sugar.

Butterball Turkeybacon
Eggs
Hamburger (add cheese)
Ribeyes
Slim Jims
Almonds
Grapes
Sharp cheddar sticks (sargento seems to be the taste leader to me)
collard greens
english peas

cheese… any kind really.

lunch meat… you can roll it with cheese or throw it in salads.

black olives… both these and the lunch meat are high in sodium so be careful if that is something you should be watching out for.

turkey bacon… low fat; my fave kind is fresh from a local market.

spinach… I eat it plain in a salad, in omelets, I also saute it as a side dish and put it in other foods, such as tomato sauce, stir fry, or soups. Lots of vitamins, low carb, and extra yummy.

eggs… I’ve been on an omelet kick lately, but I eat eggs a lot.

Almonds… they have cinnamon and cocoa ones that come in a large container or in single serve packs that are great if you want a sweet fix and low carb.

Most of my favorites have already been mentioned - pork rinds, cheese, olives - all good but salty. I also like the cinnamon and chocolate roasted almonds.

For breakfast I’ll generally take some egg whites and scramble them with some zero carb cheese (cheddar or jack) and a piece of turkey or ham lunch meat. I’ll set the burner around medium and let the egg whites cook about half way then mix in the cheese and meat. I scramble it a bit and let it cook until the cheese starts to brown and then flip it and brown the other side. Toasted cheese - yum.

A little higher on the carb side - take a 1/2 cup of greek yogurt, 1 tablespoon of finely ground flax seed and 1 teaspoon of cocoa and mix it all together. The flax adds just a little bit of nutty sweetness and some fiber.

Another low carb favorite of mine is chicken wings with buffalo sauce, blue cheese with a stack of celery sticks.

I love Korean crispy seasoned seaweed. Looks like this.

It does have some carbs in it, mostly from the sugar in the flavouring, but as crispy, salty, savoury snack food goes, it’s tolerably low carb.
