What's your favourite glucose meter, why?

Not all doctors entertain the drug reps… My old endo (as he put it) does not have time for them, hence has NO free meters and I had a very difficult time getting the Memoir (insulin pen from Lily with memory), since Lily was like. Oh get it from your Endos office since he has them. And im like. Uh no he doesn’t…But you need to be trained!.. Finally got one with a free offer coupon online… Hes like. you dont need me to teach you this I presume… Nope… I can RTFM…

I just started using the OneTouch Ping and the meter that pairs with the pump is awesome. A combination of the OneTouch UltraSmart (logbook, graphs, analysis, etc.) and an interface to the pump’s features. The ones where in Canada also have the high-contrast displays just like the Ping pumps do, but I don’t think that one’s out in the U.S. yet.

I use the Omnipod pump so the PDM uses the FreeStyle strips. I have used just about all of them in the past but like any of the FreeStyle glucometers because they take an unbelievably small amount of blood, especially the new ones with the butterfly on them.

The downside is that they are at the top of my insurance rung and cost more than some of the others. But it is worth it to me as long as I can afford them.

I liked the OneTouch meters the least since they require a large drop of blood and failed about 1 out of every 8-10 (estimate on my part). So they cost more in that respect. The FreeStyles hardly ever/if ever fail me.
