Just wondering if they would be good to add to breakfast rotation. The same things get boring after a while, and sometimes I only have time to make a fast shake and go.
It depends on your dietary needs and on the composition of the shakes. Some of them are very high in sugar/carbs/calories; you may need to see how they affect your blood glucose levels. That said, I find that the lower-carb/lower-calorie ones can be useful supplements when the normal diet is a bit low in protein, or in place of a protein entree, or when one needs to consume a meal’s worth of nutrients quickly.
Jeroen, I can’t see much of your avatar but what I do see sure looks like a Shelby Cobra. Very cool - is it yours?
I took the advice of another person on this forum and looked at http://proteinfactory.com/shop/home.php. They have a lot of choices for whey or milk casein protein shakes. It’s pretty easy to find products with low carb counts at their website. I needed a decent tasting shake that didn’t have any dairy protein and they helped me with a custom mix of soy, egg white, and beef protein. I added vitamins and minerals and an enzyme to help with protein digestion.Soy powder is usually awful tasting, but I’m happy with Protein Factory’s. When I reorder, I will get the same custom mix, but will order it without flavoring or sweetener so it can be used in green shakes.
Protein shakes because it’s cold.
Oh, wait. That’s “Whey Protein Shakes” not “Why Protein Shakes.”
Nevermind.
Ha Ha
HAHA!
I wish I had this car, it’s my dream car. I think there is only like 1000 or so that came off the line left. All the others are kit cars and replicas.
I love the way the Cobra looks but have never even sat in one. I’ve always been partial to Jaguar E types - Series 1, of course. I almost bought a 2+2 in 1979 but I was so young I couldn’t get auto insurance for it. It was just as well, as I never could have kept it running.
I bought a Magic Bullet blender years ago and make my own low carb protein shakes. I even taught my husband, who cooks nothing how to make them. He makes one before he works out. I use frozen berries, about half a cup, then 1/2-3/4 c of lite soy milk and a scoop of whey powder. Sometimes I add cinnamon, flaxseed or fiber powder. This summer I’m going to try to make green smoothies using spinach, celery, broccoli or any other good veggie. Any suggstions?
Not sure on the green smoothies, I read another post with a recipe for one. Right now my shake is 5 strawberries, 1 cup of skim milk, and a scoop of whey protein. A friend at work says he adds some sugar-free jello powder to his to flavor up the whey protein, just have to find out how much he puts in.
What I found works good is adding those Toranni sugar free syrups. They are 0 carb and come in a bunch of flavors or add a little extract like vanilla, coconut , or almond.
Looked them up on the net, they don’t seem to be sold in Canada.
I have a magic bullet too… I love it so much I could be in the infomercial for free
of all the protein powders we like Whey protein better, and it comes from milk so at least for me is less suspicious…
I have done green smoothies with celery, leek or cucumber… (not with the protein powder) at first they may taste funny, but then you get used to… They are very good for you and refreshing… Now I know what I will have for dinner.
I thought protein intake had to be low in my meals as a t2d
When I talked to my doctor about a month go, I was talking about carb cravings, she told me it could be because I’m not eating enough protein. which could have been the case because since I increased my protein intake I haven’t had carb cravings. That being said I still have to find the right amount of protein as my number are still out of wack.
But as they say, everything is different for everyone.
Protein shakes can be a real convenient to add protein to your diet. Most of them are loaded with sugar and carbs so you have to be careful which one you get. Usually if you get the 100% whey like the EAS brand you are looking at 3-4g of carbs and 23g of protein per scoop. Or you can get something like Isopure Zero which is more expensive but has zero carbs and almost double the protein.
All the choices with lower carbs also tend to be low calorie too so not much of a meal replacement unless you are trying to lose weight.
If I am in a hurry I’ll drink one mixed with water for breakfast instead of eggs and it usually holds me over till lunch.
