Tandem indicates the T:lock connectors reduces fill-time by 30 seconds vs. Luer Lock, all else being equal.
But the other major variable is the difference in pump flow rate between the X2 and it’s predecessors. The higher the flow rate, the shorter the fill time. I don’t have any information about that.
It takes me 5 minutes for an X2 cartridge change. Now.
Probably 3 minutes for a Ping cartridge change. Previously.
IMHO if this is a big deal for somebody then they should definitely look at other pumps. There would be many things they would find unacceptable. I personally consider such aspects to be irrelevant. My focus on pump comparisons lies in drastically other areas. However choice is good and different people certainly have different aspects which they consider to be critical.
I can’t see the time it takes to fill the X2 as being a show stopper.
And yeah, that is just me. But, really? A couple minutes to fill the cartridge compared to all the great stuff this pump does?
I bet you waste FAR more time in the long run with all those clicks on the current Medtronic pump compared to how easy/fast you can bolus, or so anything really, on the X2.
I changed a cartridge tonight so I timed how long it takes to fill the tubing - 90 seconds for a 43” Autosoft 90. I believe 43” tubing is the longest of all the infusion sets so the shorter lengths would have a faster fill time.
It’s not as fast as my previous Animas and Disetronic pumps, but not long enough to bother me. I imagine other pumps are faster, but in the big picture it wouldn’t be at the top of my selection criteria.
