Who do you get your Sensors from?

In November of 2010 I ordered Dexcom from the company.

Edgepark (a medical supplier) sent me the dexcom and 3 months supply of Sensors.

Now that I am running out of sensors, I called Edgepark, and they said as of January 1, we are no longer accepting Oxford health plan.

I called Dexcom and they said call your insurance company.

I called Oxford health plan, they gave me the number of 3 medical device suppliers in my area, and non of them had ever heard the name Dexcom.

I don’t know how to order my sensor refills.

I spent the whole day on the phone trying to find a solution.

I’ve gotten mine from EdgePark and from the Diabetes Speciality Center (http://www.diabetesspecialty.com/index.php), HTH…

I went through something similar with my onmipods two years ago with unicare hmo. Call dexcom back and say that you need them to go through the process with your insurance (they should be able to at least send something to your insurance for information). If your insurance approved the dexcom they have to have someone to provide you with sensors. After some run around between unicare, edgepark, and omnipod, Omnipod got approval from unicare to supply me directly with the pods (as far as I know I was the only person on their health plan using the omnipod at that time). My insurance has since changed twice (aetna HMO who allowed me to order directly from dexcom and omnipod with no copay!) and now BCBS who has me ordering from edgepark. Also, a good place to check with your insurance company would be their diabetes department or whichever department handles durable medical equipment. Sometimes I have had more success talking to people in those departments than in others. Good luck!

I got mine from CCS. I know Liberty also carries them (but they can be a royal PIA to deal with). I believe Byram also carries them.

Thanks,

I will call Dex tomorrow and tell them to find the supplier that my insurance works with.

I have Aetna and get my sensors directly from Dexcom. I had Oxford years ago before I was pumping. They were getting to be a pain and fortunately my wife’s employer dumped them. (For example, I was only allowed one nutrition session). Aetna covers my sensors (and pods) 100% after an annual deductable. I would think that either Dexcom could tell you where their customers with Oxford get their sensors or Oxford could tell you the name of the medical supply companies it works with. Of course that would be logical, and we all know that nothing relating to health care and health insurance is logical in the USA these days… Sigh.

Dexcom can contact your insurer to determine who your “durable medical provider” is, and facilitate the purchase.

Byram does carry them and in my experience, they have always been really easy to work with. Kelly, I know you had major problems with Liberty. I followed your suggestion and ordered my pump supplies through Animas. I was lucky enough to get the number of a Liberty area manager (or whatever they’re called) who is in Louisiana and knows my diabetes educator. She says in the last couple of years they’ve really tried to improve their service. She will follow my order for sensors and make sure I don’t have any problems or issues. We’ll see how that works.
Isaac, maybe you could call Liberty and ask who your local rep is and a phone number or call your CDE and ask if they know someone with Liberty or any other supplier for that matter.

Check with your endo. Ask who the Dexcom Representative is for the endo practice. Contact them to help.

I get mine from Great Lakes Medical

I just got an email from Fed Ex.
It says “Dexcom has sent you a package”.
Is it possible they read this discussion?

They never took an order from me. Just asked me to call my insurance.

I order directly from DexCom. They respond quickly within the rules of the insurance company which are bizarre to say the least!
