6.2 on Diet and Exercie alone
My last was 8.9 while on Januvia but now I am on Byetta and I cant wait to see what it is another month. Sad part is that carb count everything that goes into my system but still has a high number. This is really a lifelong journey.
I was 7.9 last time (Jan 2008). I was as low as 5.8 or something like that about 6 months after my diagnosis in March of 2005. I had about 6-9 months of relative stability before we started upping my orals, tried Byetta and then finally went to Novolog and Lantus in Nov 2007. I see my Endo in May. I’m hoping for better results.

My last A1C was 5.6! I was a lot of work though
My last one was 5.1. I was dianosed with T1 while I was pregnant though, which means it was caught as soon as it happened, so my A1C never got a chance to get too far ahead of me (worst one was 5.8) and now to keep it low, I document my carbs and patterns like I was going to submit them to the FDA…: )
6.2 on Diet and Exercise Alone
Hello! Mine was 6.5 And i am proud of it. it is in a safe zone to be in. Just started pumping three weeks ago. Cannot wait to see what it will be next time. But I DO SEND MY CONGRATS! TO CHAD. And thanks for all your help in trails and errors. You are truely my inspriretion my life would not have been complete without you being here. Love ya sis. diabeticidol94
13.5 my first and only one and boy was the Dr. pis*ed.
I was at 6.8 the most recent time. I was for almost a whole year @ 6.4 so it went up. But I am working to bring it down again.
I have one coming up next week, but of course, as is always the case, this week I’m seeing all kinds of lousy blood sugars for one stupid reason or another, though I was doing really well for most of the past 6 months.
Never fails! And I have learned from experience that the 2 weeks before the test have much more impact on the A1c, if they are high, than anything before that.
I will see my diabetes doc tomorrow. I will update the A1C on my page here as I have done here. First one here was 5.4; the second one here was 6.8. I will admit that I was a bit reluctant to post the 6.8. I understand why the number went up.
Why?
Hi Jenny,
Let me know if I’m wrong on this one. I usually consider the A1c to be an inaccurate measure of our sugars. How does the M.D. know if we’ve been at a constant control and not dropping all of the time?
I guess we have to be honest with ourselves if our sugars are falling at times. I trust my meter readings and know when my suagrs are running around 130. Yucky feeling when that happens.
I wont know my A1C for another two months. We have four endo’s in my area to look after thousands of diabetics. It’s a shame so I try to monitor alot on my own and see my primary and ask for tests to be run.
Barbara,
I recently blogged about the most recent research I found about the A1c/meter issue:
More Insight into Why A1c Doesn’t Match Your Meter Measurements
In the study discussed there they compared fructosamine results (which map very closely to glucose meter tests) to A1cs and found that individuals vary consistently. So if someone is up a certain amount over what would be predicted from glucose results one time, they’ll be up the same amount on a later tests.
There is also a strong racial component. The formulas used were drawn from white European populations and other races do not end up with the same equivalents.
The big question not answered by any solid research is which one maps to complications: A1c or meter/lab glucose tests?
My guess is glucose tests because we see a very wide range of complications for the same A1cs. The A1c doesn’t distinguish between the person going from 50 to 400 and the person going from 100 to 160. The complication profiles appear to be quite different.
My last one was 8.3. I actually made it to 5.8 two years ago when I was pregnant with my son. Since having him, it has been 8.0-8.3. I just haven’t been able to get it back down, but I sure would love too…
My A1C last month was 7.2. I has been going up. I started NPH.
Most recent was 8.6 after many years of MDI and crappy control. However I just went on the pump approx 5weeks ago and am using the Dexcom CGM so I am hoping next one will show improvement.
6.2: I expect the next one to the better, as my numbers have been averaging about 110-130 in the past few weeks.
Woohoo! Just got mine done Wednesday and it was 6.6 I know my Doc wants it under 6 but hey, I am getting there
Since I last posted this, wow 10/2007, I of course have had another one and I got it down to 6.3.
