Your "Nemesis" Food

Everyone has a “Nemesis” in their D life. Its that one food that you just cant resist, but wind up paying for later with high BG readings, and a miserable recovery time. Mine are pizza and chinese! To put it plainly, I LOVE ME SOME CHINESE!!! But, inevitably, I get this huge spike after the fact that just kills any chance of a good BG 2,3, even 4 hours later. Whats your favorite food you love to hate?

Also, does anyone know where to get nutrition info for some Pizza Hut and Dominos (versus having to guess?) Thanks!

James

I have found that NY style think crust pizza prevents me from getting that high BG effect. Also, as long as I don’t eat the rice, chinese food is OK. My big nemesis is chocolate. I love it! I have been able to control it with a 1/4 cup of nestle semi-sweet morsels 3x a week. I build it into my menu and I am very happy. Since doing this, my A1c has dropped from 8.9 to 7.0.

My only downfall is, if I don’t eat the rice, I’m hungry again in like 2 hrs. Maybe white rice instead of fried would be better…? But hey, if your going to do it in with a 800 some odd calorie meal, it may as well keep you full for a few hours lol!!

I like chocolate too. I like the dark chocolate by Ghiradelli…Truly sinful, but I try to limit myself. Plus its a bitter coco mix so the aftertaste is bliss! But that’s a discussion for a whole different forum me thinks!

Calorie King is a helpful book with nutritional info about many chain & fast food restaurants. Some companies have this on their web sites.

I can do Chinese with little trouble, I can “sort of” do pizza (I can’t eat more than 2 slices)… but my weakness, and complete nemesis - SOFT PRETZELS! OMG they are terrible on my BG!

It doesn’t matter if I make them myself and know gram for gram what goes into them, they are a nightmare for me… which is too bad because they’re SO GOOD!

Rice! Rice cakes, fried rice, paella, rice crispies, Chinese rice toppings…did I say rice?

Mine too and I pay for it later. I had pizza today and I am having indigestion now from the tomato sauce along with the spike in bs.

you can download PDF versions of these guides to print or store on your computer or smartphone.

If you have an iPhone you can use the free app “Restaurant Nutrition” to get nutrition information for dozens of fast food restaurant, including Pizza Hut and Dominos.

No doubt there are similar apps for Android and Blackberry.

Oh, and Chinese kills me every time. I think it’s the sauces, because I avoid the rice. But I can do without Chinese. The one that really kills me and that I hate giving up is breakfast cereal. Mmmmm.

Bread. Sometimes I can resist.

I would have to say Chinese food also. Pizza and Mac n Cheese, a close second!

Yea!!! Im not alone!!! So rice, pizza, and chinese seem to be at the top of the list. Please keep 'em coming, as I love the input!!!

Interesting! You said that, and it does make sense. I will have to try the plain rice and see what it does.

Pizza for sure!

Nope I can’t help you there but I’ll bet some of the other member’s here can.

I had to laugh on that one!!! Tap water, the new “Worst enemy” of Diabetics everywhere lol!!!

Nuts actually, they seem all sweet and innocent but before I know it I’ve eaten half a can’s worth and my BG is sky high!

I’m a total foodie so all food is my nemesis. if i had to pick one, i would say bread! bread with butter, bread with brie, bread with roasted garlic and goat cheese. did i mention bread?

Oh and I forgot Chicken Nuggets! A 10 pack from McD’s is like 30g of carbs, but add the oh so necessary sauce (10g of carb per packet) and the slower breakdown from the fat contained within, and you have the makings of a whole night of fingersticks and love! But…I wouldnt trade it for anything. keeps me young lol!!
