Hi Everyone,
I am new to this group but have been reading your posts for awhile. After trying for years to get pregnant, I finally got the positive last month! I had my first ultrasound when they thought I was at 6 weeks however no gestational or yolk sac could be found. Beta level tests were positive so they rescheduled me for another ultrasound this last week. They calculated me to be 5-6 weeks along and finally saw the gestational and yolk sac but no baby or heartbeat. I am scheduled for another ultrasound in one week and am really scared. They said if no heartbeat/baby is detected then this may not be a viable pregnancy. They took blood at the last visit to test the beta levels again to see if they are still rising. I'm wondering how soon some of you had a baby/heartbeat at just over 6 weeks? My A1c is 6.0 and have already seen a perinatalogist who was very happy with my overall health. I have had T1 my entire life, no complications and will be 42 next year. Anyone been in the same situation and can offer some advice? Help!
I'm sorry to hear about these stressful events! I hope that all will be OK.
I didn't go for my first ultrasound until week 7. I saw my OB-GYN in week 5 and she told me to wait 2 weeks to confirm the pregnancy by ultrasound.
Hoping for the best!
It might be too early to see a heartbeat. I didn't have my first ultrasound until 8 weeks. Your beta levels will be a more viable sign at this point of the pregnancy. I hope it turns out good and you have a wonderful pregnancy. You sound like you're in great health!
There was no fetal pole or yolk sac with my older son at 5 1/2 weeks. They told me the pregnancy was not viable and recommended a D&C. I declined and there was a fetal pole, yolk sac, and heartbeat a week later. This is an iffy time in pregnancy.
During this pregnancy, I had an ultrasound at 6 weeks and all that could be seen was a gestational sac. We didn't see a heartbeat until 8 weeks and both were transvaginal. I was measuring a week behind at 6 and 8 weeks but as of last week, I just had a 12 week and am on time to the day and the baby looks good. Did your doctor order blood work and a repeat in 48 hours to see if your hcg is rising appropriately?
I am 11 weeks right now with my second. Went in for an ultrasound at 6 weeks and to my surprise, they did an abdominal ultrasound. Couldn't see anything but an empty gestational sack. I went back two weeks later, they did another abdominal and saw the same empty image. It was so sad.
We then immediately asked for a transvaginal ultrasound at the same appointment and to everyone's surprise and happiness, it was obvious immediately that we had a yolk sack, baby and great heartbeat.
In many cases, 5-6 weeks is too early to see anything. You may even need to wait an extra week.
Wishing you all the best!!
Yes, the repeat/48 hour bloodwork was done right after the first ultrasound and the numbers showed that everything was looking good. After the second ultrasound, they did another blood test to check beta levels to see if I was still rising/doubling. I should get those results in the next day or two. Both ultrasounds were transvaginal. I've had no spotting, bleeding or cramping. I am hoping that the calculation of how far along I am is off-I am on a 35 day cycle and also ovulated quite a few days later in the cycle. Fingers crossed!
Thanks Holly!
Thanks Kristin!
I too have a longer than usual cycle so my due date is a week later than the "wheel" at the docs office says. I know my conception date and it doesn't jive with the first day of my lmp too because of my long cycle. (also 33-35 days). If your betas look good, it was just too early to see anything. My first ultrasounds where just a sac was seen, those measured a week behind my conception date which is a week behind the date for my lmp so I was very nervous and figured it was another miscarriage for me. I am now measuring correct with my conception date but still a week behind my lmp but the wheel doesn't account for longer cycles like mine.
