Hello all! I am new to the forum, and looking for some input from omnipod users. I am weeks away from getting an omnipod, and I have a question I couldn’t really ask my diabetes educator! So…how do things work out with the omnipod and omnipod placement when you are…ahem…getting intimate? As a young woman with a serious boyfriend, this is something that has crossed my mind as I’ve considered switching from MDI to a pump. I’m sorry if this offends anyone but I appreciate your honest responses. Thanks so much!
Maggie, I’m not offended in the least. It’s great to ask practical, “real world” questions and this is a wonderful place to do it.
I’ve had the OmniPod for about 1.5 years and I LOVE it. In the beginning, I put the pod on my lower abdomen. Frankly, it got in the way during sex but I figured that it was a small price to pay for having the OmniPod. Later, I switched to putting pods on my arms. They almost never get in the way now. Once in a while it gets bumped, but it’s never been a problem. Those are the only sites I’ve used so I can’t comment about other sites (thighs, back, etc.).
If you’re comfortable, Kristin’s suggestion is a good one. The OmniPod user group will have more ideas and feedback for you.
The sometimes-funny side of wearing the pods on my arms is when friends hug me. If I’m wearing long sleeves, they can’t see the pod and occasionally bump it. People who don’t know that I have diabetes or that I have the OmniPod sometimes have funny (to me) reactions. “What the heck was that?!? I think it would be rude to ask her about it . . .” is what I imagine is going through their heads based on their faces.
Glad that you’re on your way to joining us oPodders.
