A1C 5.9! Yeah!

I had the best A1C (5.9!) today that I’ve had in 8 years. Guess I’m doing something right… I start chemotherapy on thursday for my recently diagnosed colon cancer. My endo wants me to ride my numbers a little higher in case I have issues with nausea and not being able to eat. I guess that will be the best A1C I have for a little while. Wish my luck on my first chemo treatment.

Awesome Brian
I understand why your Endo wants your numbers a bit higher. Anytime there is an issue with nausea or hypotension the danger of what a low BG can do is multiplied. Because I lose salt I can get low blood pressure so my target numbers are between 110–140 Not perfect and not what a diabetic may want but the 2 combined a low bg and low blood pressure can be deadly even if the low is treated.

Hopefully nausea will not be a huge factor and they have some great meds to help with it now. But those med’s may effect how you digest also so don’t worry is you need to be a bit above normal while you fight it will pass and you will get your control back  Do you think your doc or you may want to look at a pump even if only for treatment period. You can take such a small amount of insulin and if you do get sick to your tummy this may come in very handy.

Anyway my prayers to you. Be loved you are.

Good luck to you,Brian.

Brian, congrats on your A1C! We’re thinking about you. Stay strong!
