So, I went to Insulet's site and downloaded the extension update (step 2) and restarted my PC, but it is not updating the software. Step 1 is to install the CoPilot software, which I already have and there is no new version. I called Insulet and the guy told me you have to do Step 1 and 2, but I'm afraid if I redownload the CoPilot software again, it will wipe out all our data - almost a year's worth, and I'm not in the mood to take that chance right now.
Insulet's instructions (or lack of clear instructions) on this topic is abysmal. Can anybody help?
Im pretty sure when I installed it did wipe out the old data. I thought about it, and I know the old A1c numbers, so thats what really matters right? Doctor office has the record of all the previous ones, so I didn't mind losing data. I was more curious to see if when connected to the computer, the new PDM battery drained like the old PDM did.
I guess you didn't back up your data? I know, I hardly do that too. :)
At work I backup religiously. But at home, the only backups I keep normal is pictures of my kid. Almost lost the 1st year pics once. That won't happen again.
I’ve only had my Omnipod for about a month, and just installed the software recently as well. When you talk about backing up files - how do you do that?
Hi Scott, I haven't lost any data, didn't download CoPilot again. It's just that we were going on vacation and I wanted to download the data from Liz's new PDM in case it malfunctioned while we were gone. I guess I should have tried it before midnight of the morning we were leaving! Just thought it would be a simple update, but not so.
I use Carbonite. Wonder if that backs up the data in CoPilot?
On the CoPilot system there is a backup function. You select File>Database Management>Backup. You can download the user manual from the Abbott site to show you how.
I did update to the latest Omnipod extension and I did not loose the data. I did backup before hand. I am waiting on the new PDM/Pods so I can't confirm it works. Still works OK with the old PDM though.
So did you have to re-download the CoPilot software as well as the OmniPod extension update? There isn't a new version of CoPilot, so I don't understand why you can't just download the update and be done with it.
No, I did not reinstall CoPilot. I believe I uninstalled the Omnipod extension then installed the new one. You just need to have CoPilot installed prior to installing the Omnipod extension. That is why they mention to install in that order. So if you have the current CoPilot you should be fine.
Carbonite's great, but I think it only backs up the basic user directories, like "Documents" and "Pictures" etc by default, not program data. So definitely use the Co-Pilot backup feature as described above and put it in your Documents folder. You probably could point Carbonite to the Co-Pilot data, but I'm not sure where that's at. Probably under the hidden "appdata" directory, which may or may not be backed up by default.
Ok, so I finally called Insulet today to ask about v2 of the extension. The guy told me that I didn't need to reinstall CoPilot, only the new extension. He suggested uninstalling version 1 (which I thought it did automatically when I downloaded and installed the new version) and going back to the link on their site to download version 2 again. So I did this (uninstalled from Control Panel), downloaded from the link on their site, restarted my computer, and guess what?? It's still version 1!! It also shows as v1.0.2 in the Control Panel.
Has anyone else had this problem? I can't imagine Insulet hasn't been made aware that they never updated the link with the new version. I'm so frustrated!
When I first tried to download the new PDM to copilot I couldn't. I uninstalled the omnipod extension and downloaded and installed the Version 2.0 and after that I was able to download the data from the new PDM. I just checked my version numbers in te control panel and on co-pilot and they are 1.02 also. I think this must just be inconsistency with the Insulet documentation. Are you able to download new PDM data into copilot? If you are then you probably have the correct version.
Backed up data, uninstalled both CoPilot and Extension Once I reinstalled both, plugged in my new PDM, received indication that 0 records were retrieved. Went to OmniPod tab, about extension and then right clicked on picture. Then pressed Ctrl-alt-D and followed instructions to upload data. Yes both my old and new records are now in my reports. Good Luck!
Yes, I was finally able to download! I spoke to someone in the CoPilot dept at Insulet about how they must have the old version on the server b/c it shows up as ver 1.02 in my Control Panel, but he assured me it's version 2. It just baffles me why you wouldn't then call it 2.0 to avoid any confusion! Then again, Insulet has made a lot of bone-headed decisions when it comes to this conversion, so it shouldn't surprise me.
I was having the same problem and it was driving me nuts. The fix for me was the same as KQueen, only I had to press Ctrl-Shift-D, then it "erased the log points" so the next time I connected the Omnipod it downloaded everything. Thanks for your help!
