Assisted conception....side effects?

Hi Ladies,
I have been ttc for a loooong time and now the infertility clinic I attend has got me on 150mg clomid (days 2-5) and a trigger shot of pregnyl (HCG)

Basically I was just wondering if anyone else had experienced anything similar to this and what your experience was like

Thanks lou x

Hi Lou, we did Clomid but only 50mg on days 5-9 and an HCG trigger. Two weeks later, apparently, we conceived. Due in October. It was our first cycle of it, and I think all of us, including our fertility specialists, were pleasantly surprised.

Regarding side effects, didn’t notice anything withy my BGs or anything else, really. The meds were fairly benign for me, though I understand some women experience side effects that are uncomfortable but bearable. Can’t really speak to that, I’m glad to say.

Good luck!

Thanks Tziporah. Oh and hearty Congratulations :0) What a fabulous surprise indeed :0)
I truly hope this works for us too.
I am noticing a resistance to my morning insulin and then again after food, which I think can only be due to the HCG (rather than the Clomid) as it started the morning I took my shot…

that seems a decent possibility. the hcg is a rush of hormones, and lord knows those can wreak havoc on BGs. The good news is the effects wear off reasonably quickly. Best of luck to you and yours; we certainly have faith in this stuff.

That’s exactly how I got pregnant with my now 5 month old. Plus timed intercourse. We got pregnant on the first try or we might have done another round with IUI.

The only side effect I experienced was a high in the 400s the night after the HCG trigger.

Hi Melissa thanks for your reply, it makes me feel hopeful :0)

If you don’t mind me asking how soon did you both test?

I know I took the HCG on the 23rd of May and did a blood test at their office on June 5th. They called me later that afternoon with the results. So a little less than 2 weeks.

I also did a blood test (beta hcg) at the office two weeks after my IUI (trigger shot had been 2 days prior to IUI). Like clockwork! I have to admit, though… I started using home pregnancy tests 4 days before my blood test, even though they told me not to. Positive 4 days before the bloodwork, for me.

Thanks ladies.

Hi ladies, well it turns out that it worked, sort of but my little one wasn’t meant to stay, i believe the term is a chemical pregnancy, I am very sad but looking at the cup half full, i lost 3lbs eating way healthy, low carb and I was so on top of my BGs i stayed mostly between 8 mmol and 4mmol with a couple of lows until my period arrived.

This next cycle, progesterone support has been mooted, as not only do I have difficulty getting PG I can’t seem to stay that way either :0S

@Super_sally Wishing you the best of luck hon, hope the insulin resistance is a good sign *winks, please do let me know what happens.

Lou, I’m so sorry to hear this news, but glad that you’re able to see the half-full-ness of it. Getting pregnant is indeed its own battle, and then comes the next. I’m pretty sure (from what others tell me) that there is no shortage of those kinds of emotional investments and hopes and wishes and sometimes disappointments pretty much since the moment one decides to even try to become pregnant.

You should feel really proud of yourself (as it seems you do) for all of your hard work with the DM stuff; it’s not easy, to be sure, and it sounds like you’ve done a dynamite job. Keep us posted, and keep up the excellent work. We’ll be rooting for you!

Tziporah, thankyou so much for your reply, your support means alot to me.

So now this is cycle#2, I have another scan next week on CD11 to see whats going on (but my follies/ovaries are lazy and don’t do much until day15/16, so I am not expecting anything).
I’m trying not to be sad and focusing on DM and exercise atm.
I think I invested too much emotion too early but after 10 years and this being the first snifter of a PG in Yeeeears I got carried away. So I’m on pins this month to see whats going on LoL x

We’re pulling for you, Lou. Here’s hoping for a sticky little bean this cycle.

Melissa thankyou from the bottom of my heart x x x

Oh Dammit! I hope you’re wrong too, though on the infertility network I’m on, it’s quite common to think AF is around the corner.
Do you know for the first time ever, this cycle just gone, I had no warning of AF til just before she turned up.
It’s a shame your OH is away, but like you say you can use the opportunity to get nice and stable.

Too right, it’s exhausting, even when you’re not thinking about it :0) I pray (something I don’t do often) we both get our little bundles soon x x x

So sorry Sally, it’s great that you are so positive and focusing on getting the D under control x
