Can I brag?

I was only a diabetic for two weeks before I requested the pump. I was on a pump within 6weeks of being diagnosed. I told my doctor the option was me not eating (which is what I had resorted to) or getting a pump. He opted for the pump. Thankfully. I didn’t do well with shots, at all. Sometimes doctors can be nice and listen…I am SO thankful that was one of the times mine listened to me.

That’s great! Congrats!

Congratulations!!!

if you can get that in 2-5 years, then you can surely brag to me.

in the meantime listen to this (which will set you straight)

Wow, even in my honeymoon phase where I had perfect numbers, my lowest A1c was 6.1. 5.2 is amazing!

It’s cool to be proud of that.
Good job.

Brag all you want!!! BIG Congratulations

Yes you are allowed to brag. It could be tempting the Gods.

That’s just fantastic news! It feels so good to know your work has paid off. Keep up the positive attitude, and go onward with confidence and pride!

I don’t understand the snark, dude. I know it will be harder later, and that was in the initial post.

Don’t let it get to you. You know what you’re up against. Enjoy your honeymoon period while you can, and don’t let anyone rain on your parade!!!

Vicariously enjoying your great results!

Natalie ._c-

sure, diabetes is so deceptive; its a long term thing; dont even give in for one moment; that way you will win the battle and the war !

not even one second of complacency please; thats what the D monster wants; it hurt making that jab/jibe; but i know i have made my point;

long term you need that attitude; and i wanted to do my bit/have my say for a balanced argument

as regard to my earlier remark, which i know you were not happy happy to hear:

2 points:

  1. please listen to this big discussion about honeymoon and pancreas :

2 My friend, after 50 years with T1D since 2 years old, unfortunately started his slide. All he says to me now, is ‘why didn’t’ they tell me’. Don’t want to scare you, but just want to share his story (see post from earlier discussion below). So I wanted to ‘tell you’…

ps you are advised to listen to the podcast link above if you want to really ‘hear’ what i’m saying.

My best friend is a T1 since he was 2 years old.

His parents began shots way back then.

He started his own shots when he was 9 or 10.

    Typical month for him now:

    Monthly Appointments:

    Liver doctor… some probs there

    Blood pressure doctor

Dietician… bc of D he also prob has the prob with gluten intolerance

Monthly infusions of intragam for his neuropathy

Monthly vists to his specialist for frozen shoulder

    Monthly endo appointments

He now has stomach problems with bloating, gas and acid…monthly .gastroenterologist visits

He has 30 % kidney function, so monthly renal specialist visits

May need to start dialysis in 3 years

Maybe 4 appointments a month to his PCP to check acute symptoms complaints etc

I know I have left out a few things here.

oh i just remembered frequent ultrasound appoints for liver problems, and x-rays for his intestines bc of tummy problems.

he has been fine till now, but as you can see its all coming together for him now.

this is why everyday, you measure your glucose, try and watch your diet, portion size and exrercise a little.

He is now 50 years old, and over the last year his vital kidney function has declined from 40 to 30 %.

His kidney doctor nearly started crying when she explained the news to him, as there was so much more she wished she could really do for him.

She explained that in a couple or so years, he would require dialysis.

My friend called me - and thought that it was the 'end of the road for him’

Dont worry I explained, you will surely be around with us for a long long long time.

(He just wanted the re-assurance from someone other than his doctor,

who I am not sure he really trusts (especially if they nearly broke down and cried!).

They did explain to him that a kidney transplant is an option for him down the road.

And at that rate, perhaps even a pancreas transplant at the same, which they said would ‘cure’ his diabetes.

I confirmed with my friend that a kidney transplant surely is an option,

but am not really knowledgable about pancreas transplants.

PS I explained to my friend that with the joy of gaining new life if he receives a transplant,

there is the sorrow of a life lost of the donor at the same time .

Wow! Good for you! Keep up the good work. Enjoy your success!

Congrats! Thats an awesome A1c considering you started with an A1c of 11.5.

Fantastic! I do know just how exciting this is.I was dx’d in October 2010 at a1c of 12. Four weeks ago my tests came back with a 5.5! I was hoping for anything under 7. Hopefully I will stay in the 5’s only without the lows!

That’s wonderful. I’m so very happy for you – and that you shared with us. It gives me hope.

Congratulations!!!

I kept looking at your photo, and thinking how in the world your BG could be so high! And then I looked at your page and discovered it was a pedometer! Whew!

That’s awesome even for the honeymoon phase it’s still hard.
HOWD YOU DO IT ??? haha
